Simple Slip Stitch (1 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4)

Needles: US Size 7

Multiple of: 4 stitches + 3 – This DOES NOT include the border on the sample

Pattern: 2 row pattern.

Slip all stitches purlwise – keeping floats (working yarn) to back (WS) of work

Row 1 (RS): K1, *S1, K3; repeat from * to end S1, K1

Row 2: Purl

Rep rows 1 and 2

Uses: Sweaters, vests, decorative bands, scarves, hats

Benefits: Easy repeat pattern

Very easily adapted for use with various stitch multiples (e.g. multiple of 10 +3 would

produce a row 1 of K1, *S1, K9; rep from * to end, S1, K1)

Knits very quickly

Best slip stitch to practice on for those learning the slip stitch technique

Honeycomb Slip Stitch (1 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4)

Needles: US Size 7 (for felting use US size 11 and 100% wool)

Multiple of: Even number of stitches – NOT including any border (Border is needed for this pattern)

Pattern: 4 row pattern – yarn held in front of work on rows 1 and 3. NOTE: This pattern results in a slightly heavier fabric than might be expected as floats are created every 2 rows.

Row 1: P1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front of work across row

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: Slip 1 pw wyif, P1 across row

Row 4: Purl

Uses: Stocking heels, scarves (using a needle 1-2 larger than yarn suggests), decorative bands,

heavier-weight blankets, place mats, coasters

Benefits: Very easy repeat pattern

Reverse side of fabric is also quite attractive

Very fast knitting fabric as only 75% of stitches are worked

Excellent pattern for last minute gifts owing to rapid work pace

Felt: Yes and no. Pattern does not show well but felting creates an even ‘thicker’ fabric

so, for certain items such as coasters, it might be worth a try.

Elongated Slip Stitch (1 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4)

Needles: US Size 7

Multiple of: 4 stitches + 1 – NOT including any border

Pattern: 8 row pattern. NOTE: This pattern contains ‘throws’ (winding yarn more than once over the needle before knitting it).

Row 1: K2, *K1 (2 throws), K3; repeat from * to last 3 sts, K1 (2 throws), K2

Row 2: P2, *slip 1 purlwise (dropping throws), P3; rep from * to last 3 sts, slip 1, P2

Row 3: K2, *slip 1 knitwise, K3; rep from * to last to last 3 sts, slip 1, P2 (same stitches

are slipped as on row 2)

Row 4: P2, *slip 1pw, P3; rep from * to last 3 sts, slip 1, P2

Quilted Lattice Stitch (1 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4)

Needles: US Size 7 (Felted sample knit on US size 11 using 100% wool)

Multiple of: 6 stitches + 3 – This DOES NOT include the border on the sample

Pattern: 8 row pattern. NOTE: Row 1 of this pattern is the reverse side of the fabric

Slip all stitches purlwise with yarn in front. Carry yarn (float) loosely across front of

work

Row 1 and all WSRs – Purl

Row 2: K2, *slip 5 (with yarn in front), K1; rep from * to last st, K1

Row 4: K4, *insert needle under float and knit it together with next st, K5; rep from * to

last 5 sts; insert needle under float and knit together with next st, K4

Felt: Not very well as stitch definition gets lost in the felting process. This fabric will

shrink more on the horizontal than the vertical than is normally the case owing to the

pull of the slipped stitches.

Butterfly Slip Stitch (1 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4)

Needles: US Size 7

Multiple of: 10 stitches – NOT including any border. A border is recommended in order to avoid

having slip stitches at the very beginning or end of a row.

Pattern: 20 row pattern

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9: Work border stitches then begin pattern by *yarn forward, slip 5

purlwise, yarn back K5: rep from * until border sts reached then work border sts

Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8: Work border sts, Purl to border sts, work border sts

Row 10: Work border sts , P7, *insert right hand needle upward through the 5 loose

strands, place on left needle and purl together with the next stitch (which is the middle

stitch of the slipped stitches), P9; rep from * to last 2 sts, P 2. Work border sts.

Rows 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19: Work border stitches then begin pattern by *K5, yarn

forward, slip 5 purlwise. yarn back; rep from * until border sts reached then work border

Rows 12, 14, 16, and 18: Work border sts, Purl to border sts, work border sts

Row 20: Work border sts , P2, *insert right hand needle upward through the 5 loose

strands, place on left needle and purl together with the next stitch (which is the middle

stitch of the slipped stitches), P9; rep from * to last 7 sts, P 7. Work border sts.

Uses: Sweater bodies, decorative bands, vests

Benefits: Multicolored yarn (especially long colorways) creates a lovely effect

Makes a nice decorative effect when used as a center band in sweaters, vests, etc.

Wings Slip Stitch (1 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4)

Needles: US Size 7

Multiple of: 4 stitches + 2 – This DOES NOT include the border on the sample

Stitches: C2L (Cross 2 Left), K into back of 2nd st on L needle passing behind the 1st st. Then K

into the back of the 1st st and slip both sts off needle at the same time

C2R (Cross 2 Right) P the 2nd st on the L needle passing in front of the 1st st. Then P the

1st st and slip them both off the needle at the same time

Pattern: 4 row pattern.

Slip all stitches purlwise keeping all floats to reverse side of fabric (yarn at back on r3,

front on r4)

Row 1: Knit

Row 2: Purl

Row 3: K1, *S2, C2L; repeat from * to last stitch, K1

Row 4: K1, bring yarn to purl position *S2, C2R; repeat from * to last stitch, K1

Needles: US Size 7 (Felted sample knit with 100% wool on US size 11)

Multiple of: Odd number of stitches – NOT including any border

Pattern: 4 row pattern. This pattern results in a slightly heavier fabric than might be expected as

floats are created every 2 rows. (NOTE: Row 3 involves bringing the yarn back/front/back… across the row. You will be slipping the same sts as slipped in row 2 and purling the ones purled in row 2 and all floats should be on the same side)

Row 1: (Light color yarn) Purl

Row 2: (Dark yarn) P1, *slip 1 purlwise keeping yarn to front, P1; rep from * to end

Row 3: (Dark yarn) *P1, move yarn to back of work S1 purlwise, move yarn to front of

work; rep from * to last stitch, P1 (see note above - all floats should end up on the same

side of the fabric)

Row 4: (Light yarn) Purl

Uses: Stocking heels, decorative bands, heavier-weight blankets, place mats, coasters

Benefits: Easy repeat pattern. Moving the yarn back and forth take a bit of getting use to but easy

once this is mastered

Knits very quickly

Makes an attractive band if only a smaller amount of 2nd yarn color is available

Multiple of: Multiple of 6 stitches - NOT including any border

Pattern: 8 row pattern – color change every 2nd row, carry yarn carefully up side of work keeping

color to be used next behind yarn just used

Row 1: (1st color) knit across row

Row 2: (1st color) color, purl across row

Row 3: (2nd color) *K5, slip 1 purlwise; rep from * to end

Row 4: (2nd color) *S1 purlwise, P5; rep from * to end (same sts slipped as in row 3)

Needles: US Size 7 (Felted sample knit on US size 11 using 100% wool)

Multiple of: 4 stitches (not including any border)

Pattern: 8 row pattern. NOTES: Pattern results in a heavier fabric owing to number of floats. One row purl is knit before pattern starts

Slip all stitches purlwise but note that yarn is carried to the back of the work (S1 wyib) on odd numbered rows and to the front (S1 wyif) on even numbered rows. All floats should be on the wrong side of the fabric. Carry yarn loosely up side of work

Foundation row: Purl one row with color 2

Row 1(RS): With color 1, K1, *S2 wyib, K2; rep from *, ending K1

Multiple of: 10 stitches + 1 NOT including any border. All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise.

Pattern: 20 row pattern – carry yarn up side of work every 2 rows up

St. Used: Cross 4 is knit as follows: Drop next stitch off left hand needle to front. Knit 3rd stitch

then 1st stitch, then 2nd stitch then knit the dropped stitch.

Checked Slip Stitch (3 color use of slip stitch)

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Acrylic - Worsted weight (#4), 3 colors

Needles: US Size 7 (Felted sample knit with 100% wool and US size 11 needles)

Multiple of: 6 stitches + 3 (does NOT include border on sample).

Pattern: 12 row pattern. All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise. As lots of stitches are slipped

over more than one row, it is good to use slightly looser tension for these stitches. Yarn

color A will be the predominant color

Rows 1 (RS): Using yarn A, knit

Change to yarn B -- Row 2: Purl 3, *sl 3 pwise, P3; rep from * to end

Row 3: Knit 3, *sl 3 pwise, K3; rep from * to end

Rows 4 and 5: Repeat rows 2 and 3

Change to yarn A -- Row 6: sl 3, *P3, sl3; repeat from * to end

Rows 7: Knit

Change to yarn C -- Row 8: sl 3, *P3, sl3; repeat from * to end

Super Easy Slipped Stitch Scarf

Stitch pattern is a multiple of 7 stitches + 6 additional stitches. The pattern below gives a scarf

about 10” wide. To increase or decrease width, add or decrease stitches in multiples of 7

stitches.

Row pattern is a multiple of 4 rows.

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn

Size 9 knitting needles

Darning needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations:

k = knit

p = purl

sl = slip

Pattern:

Cast on 41 stitches

Knit 4 rows

Then, begin 4 row repeat pattern as follows:

Row 1: *K6, sl stitch (as if to purl), repeat from * to last 6 stitches, knit 6

Row 2: *K6, yarn forward, sl stitch (as if to purl), yarn back. repeat from * to last 6 stitches, k 6

Row 3: *K6, sl stitch (as if to purl), repeat from * to last 6 stitches, knit 6

Row 4: Knit across

Repeat rows 1-4 until scarf is ½” less than desired length

Knit 3 rows. Bind off loosely on wrong side. Weave in ends

Block if desired
