WEEK 1: CREATE YOUR OWN NECKLACE & EARRINGSINSTRUCTOR: KRISTI EDMINSTER

This introductory jewelry & metals workshop will cover basic metalsmithing techniques such as sawing, piercing, riveting, soldering, and embellishment. You are encouraged to incorporate your own design ideas into your finished projects. Your new skills will be used to create earrings and a pendant that will reflect your own personal style.

WEEK 1: CONSTRUCTING WITH CLAYINSTRUCTOR: KEITH CARTER

This introductory workshop is a fun exploration in clay designed to teach basic ceramic skills. Learn hand-building techniques such as pinch pot, coil building, and slab, and get an introduction to throwing on the wheel. You will make functional and sculptural vessels, and explore underglaze techniques.

WEEK 1: TAILORING MADE EASYINSTRUCTOR: SANDY MELROY

Tailoring your own clothes means fitting your body with something to wear! Choose a pattern from the Simplicity Amazing Fit collection to get started (dress, top, skirt, pants pattern). Learn basic fitting techniques, and use special tailoring tools to create your first garment. If time permits, we will also discuss renovating / upcycling / embellishing other garments. Note: basic sewing skills required.

WEEK 2: SUMMER TREASURES IN RELIEF PRINTINSTRUCTOR: GENA SELBY

Bring inspiration from your garden or favorite hiking trail. Use leaves, seeds, feathers, and other items from nature to create unique monotype prints. Try a variety of inking techniques, pressing methods, and papers. This workshop is all about play and experimentation.

WEEK 2: SEGMENTED WOODTURNINGINSTRUCTOR: GERRY JENSEN

This intermediate woodturning workshop will introduce you to the basics of segmented woodturning design and construction. The process involves gluing up several pieces of wood to create patterns and visual effects in turned projects such as pens, vases, pepper mills, etc. Note: students must bring a full face-shield and safety glasses to class.

Learn basic enameling theory and techniques, including sifting of opaque and transparent enamel, sgraffito, and using Micron pens and rubber stamps to create pattern. Practice simple bezel settings, and learn how to create ear wires. Note: basic metals skills required.
