For an effective and fun interaction....

• Try to interact with as many people as possible new sitting position after every break

• Think first individually, then discuss as a group

• Don‘t be dominant - give everyone a chance

• No speeches, be to the point

• When you write cards – write one idea per card

• No computers and smartphones during sessions

2. Shake hands with all the people in your group – mention your names including your nickname.

3 Discuss in your group and agree on:

a) What should happen in this workshop?

b) What should not happen in this workshop?

c) What should be the main output(s) of this workshop?

Workshop Objectives

The overall objective pretest the CA manual developed by ACT.

The specific objectives are to:

• a) Pretest/Demonstrate use of the manual so that the training process is fine-tuned by facilitating the learning of selected modules.

• Final editing of the manuals, including lesson plans, to address and incorporate short comings brought out by the pretesting workshop

• Getting to know and appreciate each other more and having fun!

Adult learning principles/How adults learn• Adults have experience

Sharing of experiences should be encouraged

• Learn in an atmosphere of active involvement and participation

Active participation should be encouraged

• Learn when context of learning is close to their own task

Real world approach should be used

• Have a strong power of reasoning and observation

Memorizing should be minimized and maximize opportunities for observation and reasoning

• Voluntary learners

Have a right to know why a topic is important to learn

• Have a sense of personal dignity

They must be treated with respect at all times

• Remember 20 % of what they hear, 40 % of what they Hear and See, 80 % of what they Discover for themselves

Encourage demonstration, practical's, learning by doing.

Participatory Learning Principles

• Base the training on the needs on the participants

• Create a comfortable, cooperative, trusting environment

• Encourage participants through group work

• Use visual in presentations

• Use practical exercises and demonstration to develop skills

• Use case studies and problem solving exercises where appropriate

• Use drama and role play to explore issues

• Use ice breakers and energizers to revive participants when they seem tired or bored.

• Have a recap checklist to make sure participants have grasped the important points from each session.

Workshop Facilitation Methods

• Plenary lecture presentations/discussions to stimulate discussion and provide to the participants new information and experiences including research findings/explanations.

• Buzz” groups and small group working sessions: Participants will for a lot of practical work, assignments and discussions be divided into smaller groups.

• Demonstrations and practicals: Most CA principles and practical options will be demonstrated, unless or otherwise using real life aids. In feasible cases, participants will also be expected to each try out in practical sessions.

• Field Visit: Participants normally should visit institutions/farmers practicing CA during the workshop period – seeing is believing.

• To visualise and give a summary of the previous days’ events

• To visualize a daily assessment on the different topics or sessions of the day in a creative way

• By consulting other participants during the day, share any area of concern that deserve the attention of facilitators/ participants
