SLC NEWS

My heart is overwhelmed with emotion as I write this to let you know that I will be retiring from teaching and directing at the end of this school year in June 2020. I have been teaching and or Directing Preschool for thirty and a half years. I have been blessed to share twenty three and a half of those years here at Silverdale Lutheran Preschool. I am so proud to be a part of a Preschool that is a ministry of the Church, with a congregation that has opened their hearts to the children and families in our community to the love of Jesus; one that

provides a caring and positive atmosphere and creates a warm and happy place for preschoolers to learn. To be part of a staff that cares for the children deeply and wants the best for them is a blessing.

It is time that I open the next chapter of my life and spend more time with my husband and family, traveling and being a Nana to my Grandchildren, (one of my greatest joys).

God bless, Nancy Williams

Thursday Bible Study | Dec 5th at a DIFFERENT TIME—3:00 pm Pastor Bill’s Thursday Bible study this week (December 5th) will meet in the afternoon at 3pm instead of the morning time at 10:30am because our pastors will be in Sequim for the Bishop’s Advent Eucharist. All are welcome.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Food Baskets for KCR Thank you to everyone who donated for Thanksgiving baskets. Who do the baskets go to? Families in

crisis who are either on the verge of homelessness or transitioning out of it and into KCR housing units. The large majority of recipients are single mothers fleeing domestic violence or abuse, fixed income grandparents having to raise their grandchildren also rely on these meals and other services. KCR aims for minimum 75 holiday meals for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, which they say brings a great deal of joy to those families. PSNS and a few other churches make up the remainder of the donors They received 80 (SLC donated 28) for Thanksgiving. KCR has commitments for fewer than 50 for Christmas. Which means they are looking for 30 more baskets. SLC has enough funds from Thanksgiving baskets to make 15 Christmas Food baskets. Donations can be given the same In the offering basket, labeled “Christmas Baskets” Online at www.silverdalelutheran.org clicking on the green “DONATE” button.

KCR has been serving our county since 1965, its website has information about their programs as well as an annual report of financials.

Sunday Morning PB Class - Advent Bible Studies Advent has a dual focus: the “Parousia” (2nd Coming of Christ) and the birth of Jesus. On December 8th we’ll look at a number of different views of Christ’s return and then the next two Sundays we’ll focus on the birth of Jesus. Why Bethlehem? Why Different narratives in Matthew and Luke? Why is there no birth story in the Gospel of Mark? Is there a birth story in the Gospel according to John? We’ll examine these and other ques-tions as we get ready for the celebration of Jesus’ birth and his return.

NOVEMBER WAS NATIONAL FAMILY CAREGIVER MONTH

National Family Caregivers Month, an annual commemoration, sponsored by the Caregiver Action Network, honors the 78+ million Americans who care for a loved one with a chronic condition, disability, or the frailties of old age. More than 75% of all family caregivers are women, according to a 2016 report by the National Institute on Aging. And for many, caregiving is in addition to working full time and raising children of their own.

The theme for the 2019 annual commemoration is #BeCareCurious. Family caregivers want their loved ones to have the best care possible – at the doctor’s office, at the hospi-tal, and at home. Family caregivers across the country are encouraged to ask questions, explore options and share in the care decisions that affect the health and well-being of their loved ones. #BeCareCurious About--

Your Loved One’s Goals: You know your loved one better , and spend more time with them, than anyone else does. Talk to them about what their goals are for treatment and their care in general. It can be hard to talk about goals when facing a disease. But these talks help make sure your loved ones are getting the care they want.

Treatment Options: Is your loved one responding well to treatment? If not, ask your doctor if there are other options. New treatments are available every day. Whether it’s a different dose, a new medication, or a new procedure, speak up and ask your doctor if there are options you and your loved one should consider.

Research: The internet is a great research tool, but it can also be full of conflicting, and even dangerous, advice – so don’t stop there! Be curious about that article you just read. Is it from a reliable source? Talk to friends, family and doctors to ask as many questions as possible to learn about your loved one’s condition. (See below for some trusted internet resources.)

The Care Plan: If your loved one is in the hospital, be sure to ask what happens next. Will they need home care after being discharged? Are there new medications or procedures you will need to manage at home? Will you be trained on what to do and how to do it? A lot of care happens at home and you need to be prepared to provide that care.

Coverage: Don’t be shy about asking questions about insurance coverage. Is your parents’ Medicare plan the best option or should you change plans during open enrollment? Was a medication switched for a medical reason, or because your insurance no longer covered it? If coverage was denied, what can you do to change their minds?

Family caregiving is stressful, but the more you know, the more confident and capable you will be when providing care. Remember – knowledge is power!
