Application

Slater Plastic Boxes, the Contractor's Choice designedwith unique labor-saving features, include a completerange of wall, ceiling, and old work boxes for commer-cial and residential construction applications.

Slater Plastic Wall Boxes meet UL 263 "for fire resis-tance, for use in fire resistant walls constructed of woodor non-load bearing metal studs and gypsum wallboardfor two hours or less classification periods."

The results of UL testing have been reviewed by theInternational Conference of Building Officials (ICBO)allowing Slater wall and ceiling boxes to be recognizedfor use in two hour fire rated construction.

Product FeaturesAuto/ClampEliminates the need for separate cable clamps as well as thetools usually needed for installation.

Auto/Clamp® is available on all multigang boxes, old work boxes, 4"square boxes, and 3 1/4" and 4" round ceiling boxes. A major instal-lation advantage with Auto/Clamp is that the clamp is molded as anintegral part of the box (there are no separate clamps and screws toinstall, adjust or tighten). Each cable opening contains anAuto/Clamp, therefore, the non-metallic sheathed cable may be insert-ed where needed or where most convenient. Auto/Clamp does nottake up as much room as conventional clamps, allowing moreroom for wire and devices -another important feature. AUTO CLAMP*To install the cable, insert strippedor unstripped non-metallic wire intothe Auto/Clamp opening and pullthrough to the desired length. Thecable is automatically secured andthe installation is complete. Thereare no other operations for the elec-trician to perform. Contractors canlook forward to saving time andmoney with every Auto/Clamp plas-tic box installation.

Location RibsLocation Ribs enable the installerto quickly and accurately maintaina 1/2" offset. Dual ribs also make iteasy to keep the face of the box par-allel to the stud. The ribs are .450"long to reduce the chance of the boxprotruding beyond the 1/2"sheetrock.They project .080" to spanthe rounded edges of wood studs butwill not cause excessive canting of thebox when used with thinner wallboard.

Fast, easy, and secure installationsThe unique, labor-saving Quick/Click design secures the wiringdevice quickly and easily. Simply push in the mounting screws witha screwdriver and turn the screw one turn.

With Quick/Click you cannot cross-thread or strip a devicemounting screw.Wall boxes are tested for a minimum 100 Ib. total device pull-out resistance.

How Quick/Click WorksThe spring steel insert for quick mounting of switches and recepta-cles is a unique patented feature. (Refer to illustration.) Note howthe spring acts as a locking ratchet and allows the screw to bepushed in and then tightened. The screw can only be released byunscrewing it in the conventional fashion.

Speeds installation by eliminatingneed for toolsAnother time-saving idea is Quick/Entry,a method that allows you to pushstripped or unstripped non-metalliccable into a single gang plastic boxwithout removing knock-outs. Jaggededges usually formed in other boxesare eliminated. Staple wire to stud with-in 8" of the box ( per NEC 370-17(c)) tocomplete installation.

Application

Slater single, two, three, four gang and 4" square wood and steelstud boxes feature Quick/Click", the labor-saving device thatassures quick and dependable installation of switches and recepta-cles. These high-impact thermoplastic boxes can be mounted quick-ly to steel or aluminum studs using the CT-1 Crimping Tool, or theycan be mounted to wooden studs with common nails or screws.On the one, two, three and four gang steel stud boxes, a steelmounting bracket is provided for mounting to the structural stud.The non-mounting side of the box has provisions for attachment toa short section of stud (phantom stud), as shown in the illustrationbelow, to give additional rigidity to the installation. This assemblymay also be used without the phantom stud as a positioning tab toautomatically realign the box to the wallboard surface. The bracketsare 3/8" offset to accommodate 3/8" to 5/8" thick wallboard.

Application

Slater single, deep single, two, three, four gang, and 4" round ceil-ing boxes with combination Hex/Phillips washer head self-tappingscrews are designed to save labor and speed installation in steelstud construction. These innovative boxes are an alternative tobracket box steel stud construction, and can also be used on woodstuds. The specially designed point on the screw rapidly penetrateslight and medium gauge steel studs to securely fasten the box.Locator ribs 0.450" long help align the box on the stud and insurecorrect mounting depth. Boxes are UL Listed and ICBORecognized.
