KWIKFRAME MODULAR WALLING IS SUITABLE FOR ALL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS DUE

TO IT’S EASE OF HANDLING, RAPID ASSEMBLY, ECONOMY

AND ADAPTIBILITY TO A WIDE VARIETY OF BUILDING

APPLICATIONS.

KWIKFRAME HAS BEEN A WALLING SYSTEM OF CHOICE

SINCE 1981 FOR HOUSING PROJECTS, SCHOOLS, OFFICES, COTTAGES, INDUSTRIAL PARKS, COMMERCIAL CENTERS, FARM BUILDINGS, HOTELS, STUDENT

ACCOMODATION UNITS AND TOURISM LODGES

THE KWIKFRAME MODULAR WALLING SYSTEM HAS BEEN USED WORLDWIDE TO FAST TRACK CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS,

DEMONSTRATING ITS EASE OF HANDLING, RAPID CONSTRUCTION PROCESS, COST EFFECTIVENESS AND ADAPTABILITY TO A WIDE

VARIETY OF BUILDING APPLICATIONS, INCLUDING:

Huge interest has been expressed in the upmarket sector of residential homes where savings of between 30 -

36% have been reported. Structures have been built in all areas of Southern Africa, including Mauritius where G7 (cyclone proof) building systems are a requirement.

KwikFrame is an ideal construction method for mass

housing projects as panels can be delivered to the building site and erected using the local labour resource.

Ideal for unstable soil conditions, the joined panels form a monolithic structure offering superior wall strength in

which no cracking will occur.

The completed product is four times stronger than blocks and is completely waterproof.

KwikFrame is the ideal construction material to easily and quickly erect both rural and urban

schools and community centres. Local unskilled community members usually hand

plaster the walls, or plaster may be applied using a plaster or gunite machine.

On the domestic front KwikFrame is the ideal choice for the construction of small building works such as garages, granny flats, game lodge chalets, fishing

cottages, farm compounds, stables and boundary walls.

KwikFrame has been used very successfully to build swimming pools as well as water tanks - which is a great

alternative to the cumbersome round water tanks available.

THE KWIKFRAME FAST TRACK BUILDING SYSTEM IS SO VERSATILE IN ITS APPLICATION THAT ITS ONLY LIMITATIONS ARE THE

CREATIVE SKILLS OF THE DESIGNER

Throughout the gold and coal mining industry KwikFrame has been used in a variety of underground

applications. Specialist contractors secure the panels into place and employ gunited concrete to form air tight

stoppings, air crossings and roof support.

KwikFrame has been used extensively in mine labour accommodation.

STORAGE & WAREHOUSING

KwikFrame’s fire proof walls are rated at 60 minutes - which can be further enhanced with our EcoPlast

plaster to beyond 3 hours.

KwikFrame walls are the quickest and most practical solution for industrial and commercial walling.

100m² of walling can be erected and gunited in only 8

hours to form solid partitioning walls to suit tenant’s requirements.

The walls can be cut to allow for door and window

openings without costly lintel or masonry reinstatement, making KwikFrame modular

building system the most versatile for mini factories and commercial shopping centres.

KwikFrame walls are also very adaptable to suit

whatever unique request from a tenant.

This benefit makes KwikFrame the ideal choice of building system for storage centres.

THE KWIKFRAME BUILDING PROCESS CAN BE MADE EVEN FASTER BY APPLYING THE KWIKSPRAY MORTAR SYSTEM. NOT ONLY DOES THIS MEAN A CONSISTENCY IN THE MIX OF THE PLASTER - IT ALSO ALLOWS FOR A PLASTERING TEAM TO FINISH THE ENTIRE PLASTERING PROCESS IN A SINGLE DAY.

DELIVER PANELS TO SITE Deliver panels to site as per the drawing schedule. The panels may be supplied as a plain panel (without insulation), or as an insulated

panel. The panels measure 2.95m in height x 1.2m in width. Insulated panels weigh 32kg each while the plain panels weigh just 9kg each. Panels will weigh upwards of 130kgs/m² once plastered.

INSTALL STEEL REBAR IN FOUNDATION Y8 steel rebar is inserted 150mm deep into the raft foundation and 150mm is left protruding from the foundation. These steel rebars are placed at 600mm intervals along the length of the outer perimeter and 50mm from the edge of the foundation. Y8 steel rebar is inserted along the centre line for all internal walls.

SECURING PANELS Using the supplied flat and angled cover strips secure all the panels to each other and ensure that all panels are adequately braced, square and

secure. Once all the panels are up then the process of marking out the positioning of all plug points, windows

and doors begins.

INSTALLING CONDUITS Insert 15 or 20mm PVC conduit tubing

into the cavity between the two layers of mesh, removing the foam if necessary.

The inside layer of mesh and foam is cut out to accommodate switch and plug

boxes. All water reticulation pipe positions for hot

and cold water should be placed into position removing the foam if necessary, and made secure.

FIRE External walls have a 60-

minute fire rating.

PERFORMANCE 0.45m3 K/W measured on an 80mm thick plastered wall.

DURABILITY Lifespan of the structure

will exceed 50 years.

ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE Acoustic range between

37dB - >50dB.

CONDENSATION Accepted in all 6 climatic

zones in South Africa.

STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE Panels are able to take a

loading of up to 14.85 Kn.

PLASTERED MASS Completed plastered

walls weigh 130Kg/m2

DELIVER PANELS TO SITE The position of each roof truss needs to be marked and cut out. The depth of the cut-out will be dependent on

the depth of the truss being used. At the base of these cuts, a section of steel rebar (Y10) should be secured at the base of each of these cut-outs

WINDOW/DOOR POSITIONING The position of all windows and doors need to be

clearly marked out and their section of panels removed. Lattice strips are secured diagonally on each corner of the window and some steel rebar is placed above the larger openings. Steel rebar is also placed around the top of the wall as well as

the middle of the walls.

FIRST COAT PLASTERING Once all conduits, electrical plug boxes and electrical

distribution board, water reticulation pipes, window and door frames, as well as the roof truss positioning has

been secured into position, the first phase of plastering begins. Start plastering from the bottom of the panel using an optimal mix of 6 wheelbarrow river sand, 6 wheelbarrow plaster sand and 2 pockets of cement.

Once the final roof design has been completed and in position, the final plastering phase can begin. An optimal mix for the final phase of plastering is 3

wheelbarrow of plaster sand + 1 bag of cement which should include fibre to prevent any long-term plaster

cracking.

EASE OF USE − 12 teams can complete in excess of one hundred 50m2 houses per month. Each team consists of 3

people. 1 Artisan and 2 labourers. − KwikFrame is erected by unskilled workers and semi-skilled workers. − The roof is fitted before plastering creating better working conditions in the heat of summer. − KwikFrame houses are easily extended. − KwikFrame is suitable for the construction of classrooms and clinics. − TEN to FIFTEEN classrooms can be delivered on one truck, assuming that each classroom size is

50sq/m. − KwikFrame panels are easy to handle because they are light. − KwikFrame is architecturally attractive. − KwikFrame is able to better utilise a sloping building site. − KwikFrame offers less weight impact on the foundation slab. − KwikFrame building sites are clean, safe and tidy. − KwikFrame is inorganic which means that it will not rot, swell, warp, split, crack or creep.

ECO-FRIENDLY − KwikFrame is 100% recyclable and environmentally friendly. − KwikFrame offers a 75% reduced carbon footprint to conventional construction. − KwikFrame construction offers limited wastage. Only 3% on-site wastage as opposed to at least 23%

wastage with conventional building methods.

PERFORMANCE − KwikFrame contains 3kg of re-inforcing steel per square metre cladded with concrete and

polyurethane in the middle which protects against both hot and cold temperatures. − KwikFrame walls are waterproof, so no more dampness. − KwikFrame houses are insulated, so they are cooler in summer and warmer in winter. − With KwikFrame construction, straight walls and square corners are guaranteed. − KwikFrame is not affected by ambient weather conditions. − KwikFrame is dimensionally stable, it will not expand or contract as a result of moisture content. − KwikFrame is invulnerable to termites, borer, fungi, mould and other organisms. − KwikFrame is incombustible, it will not burn and will not contribute fuel to spread fires. − KwikFrame offers superior thermal and acoustic insulation properties, some 180% better than block

construction. − KwikFrame offers superior building accuracy. − KwikFrame offers shorter and predictable construction schedules. − KwikFrame’s thinner walls provide for an internal space increase, which increases the lettable floor

area by some 20%, depending on the design of the structure. − KwikFrame is ideal for high rise refurbishment where substantial costs can be saved as a result of a

panel filling process as opposed to the conventional method of building walls. − KwikFrame is very flexible in its application since it can achieve any shape or design. − KwikFrame structures are able to be built in cyclonic and earthquake prone areas.

Page 13: SLASH COSTS CONSIDERABLY - Kwikframe

13

STRENGTH − KwikFrame is much stronger than block or brick construction. − KwikFrame houses are expected to last in excess of 60 years (as per CSIR report). − KwikFrame offers a very high strength-to-weight ratio. − KwikFrame structures are less likely to be damaged as a result of weather, wind or earthquakes.

STRUCTURAL − KwikFrame is well suited for use on unstable soils because it is monolithic. − KwikFrame walls do not crack because the walls are continuous. − No foundations are required for internal walling. − KwikFrame houses need only a simple raft foundation and therefore saves on construction cost.
