Travel We will travel by coach to Dover, then by ferry to France. From there, we will resume the journey to the hotel. The coach is fully air-conditioned, with a toilet on board. You need to ensure that your child has enough food for the journey to Austria (we will make service stops) and has enough to keep them entertained on the journey. It is suggested that pupils bring a pillow or cushion and small blanket or coat for the journey. A number of stops will be made on both legs of the journey to allow your child to purchase food or drink, use the toilet (0.70 in Germany) and stretch their legs.

Passports Each child must be in possession of their own valid passport which must be handed to reception by Wednesday 25th April. If there is any issue with this, please contact Miss Lawler immediately.

Luggage It is suggested that students bring one medium-sized suitcase and one small overnight bag for the journey. There is limited space on the coach for luggage and any pupil carrying too big a bag will have to repack and leave some things behind. Please ensure that a pair of ski socks are in the overnight bag, for hire of equipment on arrival at the resort.

Currency Requirements We advise that pupils bring about 100 150 Euros. All pocket money MUST be handed in to Miss Lawler in an envelope with your childs name on the front, on departure. A set time each day will be allocated for the collection of pocket money for that evening and the next day. A small amount of Euros may be required for the stops on the journey. Pupils can look after this money themselves.

Medication All medication must be handed to Miss Lawler prior to departure, in an envelope with your childs name, as well as the required dosage, on the front.

Insurance There is a comprehensive insurance included in the cost of the trip but it is strongly recommended that you obtain an EHIC card for your child. This has replaced the old E111 form.

    Applying for a card

If you have not done so already you can apply for an EHIC, free of charge, by visiting https://www.ehic.org.uk and following the link 'Apply Now'. Alternatively, you can apply:

by calling 0845 606 2030; or by picking up an application form from the Post Office.

Only one application by either post/internet or telephone is necessary. If you have made any prior applications and are yet to receive a card, please call the enquiry line on 0845 605 0707.

In order to apply ensure you have the NHS or National Insurance Number, Surname/Family Name, Forenames and Date of Birth of each applicant.

A letter outlining the finer details of the drop off and pick up times will be issued at a later date when we have confirmation from Ski Astons.

Code of Conduct for Students Everyone will act with courtesy and consideration to others at all times. This means:

    1. HAVE FUN!

    2. When at customs or border control, pupils will be understanding of the authorities duties and act appropriately. Border controls will not tolerate any jovial behaviour or jokes regarding terrorism.

    3. When on the ferry, at service stations during the journey, and in the village in Austria, move around in small groups. Do not travel in large groups, as this can be seen as being intimidating.

    4. Always be careful and considerate to others. This means no running, shouting or barging. 5. Always be courteous, polite and understanding to other people. This may include standing back to let people pass.

    6. Do not shout when it is unnecessary. Be quiet when a teacher or instructor is talking to you. 7. Please abide by the skiing slope rules set out by your instructor. These are for yours and others safety. 8. DO NOT drop litter at all. Do not write on walls or tables. 9. Pupils can take cameras, iPads etc. They do so at their own risk. Teachers will not be responsible for them. 10. Mobile phones are permitted on the trip but are carried entirely at the owners risk. The school accepts no responsibility for

mobile phones whilst on route or in the resort.

    11. No alcohol or cigarettes are to be taken on the trip or purchased on the ferry or at the resort.

    12. You are responsible for the reputation of Isleworth & Syon School, so please follow this code of conduct and allow everyone to enjoy the trip.

    13. Anybody who persistently breaks this code of conduct will have their parents sent for and they will be sent home.

Equipment All equipment should be packed into one medium-sized case. Please be aware that there is limited space on the coach for luggage. Pupils who have packed a large suitcase will be asked to leave some items behind.

Ski Helmets Below is an edited extract from the Austrian Times, which states that it is now law for all children under 16 and adolescents to wear ski helmets on Austrian slopes.

No ski helmet law slides into action

Legislation making ski helmets mandatory for under 16s in Austria will come into effect on Saturday 23rd January. The provincial legislature amended the law on sports on 23rd January to make helmets mandatory for them. Peoples Party (VP) provincial councillor Petra Bohuslav said today (Thurs) it was "important that the helmet requirement enter into force as fast as possible" in reference to "perfect pistes and an expected onslaught of skiers" in the run-up to the Easter holidays.

Bohuslav said it was very important to engage in increasing peoples awareness of the importance of wearing helmets when skiing. Lower Austria is the first province to make helmets mandatory for children and adolescents. Better skiing equipment and faster pistes have resulted in an increase in the average speed of skiers, making injury more likely in accidents.

As a school we have a duty of care to ensure the safety of the pupils we take on trips, and as such we insist that all pupils of school age MUST wear a helmet whilst skiing. Helmets can be bought or hired (prices from 10 - 15), and must be done so before departing for Austria. They must be packed in students luggage and not taken onto the coach.

Your child will not be allowed to ski without a helmet. Students who have hired through ProSki will receive their helmet at resort. For health and safety reasons, we will request to see helmets of students who have not hired through ProSki prior to departure.

If you require any further information, please contact me at the school.
