Arctic Adventures for AllThe pristine slopes of fresh powder seamlessly merging into crystal clear, cold blue waters of the North Sea have helped the Lyngen Alps of Northern Norway to be consistently voted one of the best off-piste skiing destinations in the world. Arctic Norway is a unique winter paradise, from catching panoramic glimpses of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and whale watching to ice climbing, with routes catering to anyone from rookies to seasoned mountaineers. As the polar night starts to recess in late February the sail and ski season be-gins. A complete ban on helicopter and snowmobile-assisted accents ensures tranquility and pristine powder, and numerous ski touring routes, more than a 100 of which are marked and well defined in local guide books, cater for skiers and riders of all levels and abilities.

Located well inside the Arctic circle this unique nature’s playground offers guaranteed skiing until mid May at least.

Luxury AfloatWhilst designed for performance and reliability, the aesthetics were given careful consideration, the light grey sails and orange trimmed hull standing out remarkably well against the blue and white landscape of the fjords.

The large cockpit, employed either for handling spinnakers or offering al fresco dining in the Med, has been fully enclosed and heated for the Winter season. This volume above decks enables the guests to enjoy the sailing and dramatic Arctic scenery without changing from their slippers. The sail locker was adapted to host a ski rack; water toys in the lazarette gave way to an 8-pair boot heater to ensure that the guests enjoy a dry and warm pair of boots every morning. A dedicated storage cabinet for crampons and hard gear ensures that all your equipment is at hand and well organized for a dinghy launch when the conditions allow a shore landing to begin the next ski tour.

Firebird: Your Floating ChaletThe spacious saloon of the RS version of Oyster’s celebrated 885 model offers a 360° panorama of the local scenery, comfortably seating 8 around the smartly engineered foldable table. Bespoke designer tableware and Redington crystal, branded Heirlooms bed and table linens illustrate the attention to detail that the owners and crew have put in creating the ambiance and convenience of the luxury alpine chalet brought right to the footsteps of Europe’s best off-piste skiing. We even offer guest slippers and signature orange cashmere blankets to enjoy your morning mug of coffee on deck whilst admiring the dramatic colours as the sun emerges from behind the snow covered Arctic peaks.

Each cabin has a heating system which can be controlled individually, allowing you to be comfortable everywhere onboard. For your convenience the A/C sockets are UK, US and Euro compatible, complete with additional USB charging ports.

Your Master SuiteOyster’s trademark full beam master suite offers a spacious retreat off the mountain with signature seascape windows framing the spectacular view of the Norwegian fjords. A bespoke cabin management system puts the control of lights, heating, ventilation and audio-video system with over a 1,000 of your favourite music tracks and hundreds of movie titles in various languages literally at your fingertips. If you prefer your own personal library, the yacht offers seamless connection by individual AirPlay units in all cabins.

A full sized walk-around double bed is complemented by a comfortable settee with individual lighting to enjoy a relaxing read, a vanity table with ceiling height mirror hiding a TV screen and a double wardrobe offering plentiful stowage and handing options for your kit and dinner dresses. The en-suite is equipped with a walk-in shower as well as a vast basin top and cabinets. A dedicated heater outlet and neatly foldadble hooks allow you to quickly change the heads to a drying room.

Guest AccomodationTwo further aft located state rooms sleep four, either as doubles or twins offering similar amenities and conveniences as the master suite. In all guest cabins the TV screens are smartly hidden behind framed artwork that prevents disruption to the subtle design of Firebird’s interiors when not in use.

The 21st century requires some of us to stay connected even when we travel to the most remote corners of the globe. Depending on the guests preference the midship cabin can be employed either as a double-screened satellite-connected and fully equipped office, or as a further en suite single cabin.

All cabins offer hair dryers, luggage mats and laundry facilities. Usually, the guest laundry is cleaned mid-week but on request daily washing is available thanks to Miele professional series appliances fitted on board.

An Exquisite Dining ExperienceWhat could be better than skiing down an endless powder field to be greeted onboard with a freshly baked cake and afternoon tea? Homely and indulgent treats are just the beginning, with carefully crafted menus designed to keep you both fuelled for the mountains and your tastebuds satisfied. No matter what, the panoramic view in the saloon turns any meal in to a real occasion, sunrise at breakfast in particular.

Where available, chef Mel takes advantage of the local and fresh produce for her delicious creations. Needless to say the local Norwegian salmon is second to none, and the region is a real joy for fish and meat lovers alike. All dishes are paired with wines, which are all included in your charter package.

Menus can, of course, be tailored to your taste and dietary requirements.

Arctic Norway, Truly UniqueThe region of Tromso, the Lyngen Alps and the surrounding Fjords offer a unique experience for those wishing to explore it. More than just off-piste skiing, there is plenty to keep non-skiers entertained too. In season there is whale watching, dog sledding, snowshoeing, along with countless cultural excurions, including distilleries, museums and various historical sites.

In addition, you should not miss a strong chance of seeing the famous Northern Lights, which is a real draw of the region in itself. The wonderfully clean and clear atmoshere this far north lends itself beautifully for extended viewings of the Aurora Borealis.

For some, the jaw-dropping scenery is enough. As it is a true photographers dream so bringing your best camera is highly recommended!

The draw of a true outdoor experience, away from the lift queues and crowded slopes of Europe’s popular destinations is unrivalled. Without any means of reaching a summit other than ski touring, there are no crowds, and the views at the top are always stunning and well earned.

The quality of the snow and diversity of the descents offer exciting skiing for all abilities, although a certain level of physical fitness helps to make the most out of the mountains. We can provide comprehensive lists of equipment required, depending on the ascents and routes you plan to take, all drawn from our experience and love of off-piste skiing charters.

Being a weather and safety driven trip, the schedule is subject to change in order to adapt to the snow conditions and maritime forecast. An experienced and locally knowledgable guide is imperative to the success of such a charter.

The hull is hand laminated using a custom GRP especially designed for the yacht by Oyster’s own structural engineers. It comprises of a combination of E Glass, Kevlar

and Carbon Fibre. This offers significant weight savings, strength, stiffness and impact resistance.

DECK GEARFirebird features 6 custom made Lewmar carbon winches plus a single point captive mainsheet system all powered by the onboard hydraulic powerpack.

Firebird’s rig is a custom made Hall Spars design comprising of carbon standing rigging and a fully battened main sail for reduced weight and extra speed.

ENGINE ROOMA single Cummin Turbo-charged QSL9-330, heavy-duty diesel engine is fitted. Firebird has 2 Onan MDKBT e-QD 22.5kW, 220v, 50Hz 4 cylinder generators.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMAll power sockets on board are fitted with a multiway adaptor.

63A 220v shore powerThe yachts DC electrical supply is 24v and has a 1640 Amp hour domestic battery bank.

Each engine and generator have their own 95 Amp hour starter battery.In addition there is a dedicated 24v 55Amp hour battery bank for the navigational instruments.

For charging there are 3 100Amp battery chargers that will run from either shore power or off of the generators.The yachts main engine also charges via a 150 Amp alternator.
