The m andate of the National Comm ission on Terrorist Attacks U pon theUnited States (better kno wn as the 9-11 Com mission) is to provide anauthoritative account of the attacks o f September11,2001, and offerrecomm endations as to how to prevent such attacks in thefuture.
Specifically, Section604 of Public Law 107-306 requiresthe Commission toinvestigate "facts and circumstances relating to the terrorist attacks ofSeptember 11,2001," including those relating to intelligence and lawenforcementagencies; diplomacy; imm igrationand border control;the flow ofassets to terrorist organizations; comm ercial aviation; the role ofcongressional oversight and resource allocation; and other areas determinedrelevant by the Commission for its inquiry.
The Com missioners would w elcome the opportunity to have aninformal policydiscussion with you sometime in early to mid-September touching on one ormore of these issues. W e are certain that your insights w ill help us considerablyas we fo rmulate policy recommendations for the Co mm ission's final report.

Commissioners:
At the Chair and Vice Chair's request, we are scheduling a series of informalbriefings around Washington with various think tanks and individuals in thepolicy community. The emphasis of these discussions will be on policyrecommendations. This effort is meant to supplement formal briefings andinterviews conducted by the Commission. Your attendance is optional.
The first of these informal discussions will take place at the BrookingsInstitution on Wednesday, June 25 from 8:30-10:00 AM (1775 Massachusetts Ave.,Room TBD) . Brookings participants will include Jim Steinberg, Mike O'Hanlon,Jim Lindsay, and Ivo Daalder.
