    Faculty responsibilities at SJSM are typically divided between teaching, research, and administrative services. For further information, pleaserefer to the Faculty Handbook.

    Assistant Professor Assistant Professors teach several related classes in their subjects, conduct seminars with only a few students, and/or oversee studentslab work. Assistant Professors must grade tests and papers, advise students on an individual basis, and prepare lessons, exercises or labexperiments.

    In the absence of senior faculty, program and course directors & coordinators or when assigned by the Dean, Assistant Professors may alsoparticipate in teaching, research, and administrative services as follows:

    A) Administrative and service activities: (Expected to spend minimum 40% of 40 working hours per week)

    - Serving on various committees at SJSM Campuses, Journal Clubs, Health Fairs, organizing seminars, consultations, andextracurricular activities

    - Organizing consultations and extracurricular activities

    - Attendance at faculty meetings,

    - Representing the department & courses on committees.

    - Holding ofce hours for students twice a week.

    - Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.

    How far the administrative responsibilities are being met is evaluated by the number of committee meetings attended and the Deans assessment report.

    B) Teaching responsibilities (Expected to spend minimum 40% of 40 working hours per week)

    - Teaching of assigned courses includes (but is not limited to):

    - Learning the material,

    - Keeping up to date with current advances in both research and pedagogy,

    - Choosing an appropriate textbook,

    - Preparing lectures, laboratory and/or practical activities as well as multimedia presentations where applicable

    - Classroom teaching - Preparing and grading tests, quizzes, practicals when applicable and any assigned term papers,

    - Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques;

    - Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction(s);

    - Tutoring and academic counseling of students;

    - Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources, work experience and eld/experimental researchwhen applicable;

    - Evaluating student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students work within assignedcourses.

    - Supervising Tutors.How far the teaching responsibilities are being met is evaluated by the student evaluation and the Deans assessment report.

    C) Research activities (Expected to spend minimum 20% of 40 working hours per week)

    Assistant Professors must:

    - Keep up with current research activities in their areas of expertise (reading journal articles, attending conferences, and staying intouch with other researchers in their eld) Assistant Professors spend less time conducting personal research than Professors and

    Associate Professors.

    - They still can participate in research, perform experiments (when applicable), collect and analyze data, and examine works ofliterature and other source material for their own projects.

    - They also can submit research proposals and mentor students research projects

    - Their work or research ndings can be published in academic journals or books after the approval of the Research committee.

    - All research activities should be performed according to scientic principles, particularly principles of evidence based medicine.

    How far the Research responsibilities are being met is evaluated by the report of Research Committee of:

    - the number of proposals submitted to the research committee per year.

    - number of proposals converted to posters.

    - number of proposals sent to the satellite ofce to engage the staff with data collection.

    - the number of research projects they took part in
