As educators, following the lead of Pope Francis to ‘go out to the peripheries’ and upon noticing the urgency to serve the immigrant population in Southern California, the Sisters decided to initiate and sponsor a ministry dedicated to provide immigrants the tools they need to succeed in the United States. The Silviano Carrillo Centers’ mission is to challenge adults to grow in faith and knowledge for their benefit and that of society’s. The Sisters attempt to foster in individuals the knowledge of their worth as children of God.

SCC’s students are motivated to nourish their faith by being responsible and productive citizens, to develop better English speaking and writing skills, and to help themselves and their families set clear goals which will result in dignified lives.

The Centers operate under the leadership of the Sisters with the participation of lay staff members and many volunteers. Additionally, SC Centers partner with Catholic Charities to bring immigration lawyers and/or licensed professionals who can give legal advice.

The first programs launched were Citizenship and ESL classes in St. John the Evangelist Parish in Encinitas, CA and St. John of the Cross Parish in Lemon Grove, CA thanks to the support and generosity of their Pastors. Classes are taught in English or in Spanish depending on the need. Blessed be God for the blessings received through this new ministry!

For more information or to volunteer and support the centers please contact Sr. Adriana Rebeca Zuro, 619-721-0600.

God has been good to us, and we are glad indeed!

In the previous newsletter, we showcased the property God’s Divine Providence provided for the dignified retirement of our Sisters who have dedicated their lives to the service of God and others. As we work to make this home a reality, we would like to provide you the opportunity to become part of this important project to care for our aged Sisters. This home has the potential to provide for the long-term needs of the Sisters in our Province.

The six-bedroom home can adequately house about eight Sisters. Most bedrooms have a full bathroom and are spacious enough for one or two Sisters. The plan includes some remodeling to convert a parlor into a chapel, the hallway into a study/activity room, and the master bedroom into a bright and peaceful living/community room. Additionally, there are two walk-in closets that will become two fully equipped ADA compliant bedrooms with bathrooms. The impact on the quality living of the retired and infirm Sisters will be remarkable. We can now offer appropriate care to our Sisters, keeping them close to their families, communities and to the people they know and love.

We seek your assistance with the following in kind donations. Become a part of this journey to help make this house a home.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of the Sisters!

Blessed be God for the life of Sister Lucy, who loved and served Him for 79 years, 54 of those years as a Sister Servant of the Blessed Sacrament. She worked to make Jesus known and loved in the communities where she ministered. She also

spread her love and devotion for our Blessed Mother by making and distributing hundreds of rosaries during her retirement. Sister Lucy was a pillar of strength to our Province and a stronghold of prayer for the increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Let us praise God for the gifts granted to Sister Lucy, for a life dedicated to the service of others, and for her witness of joy, generosity, and faith in the hands of God.
