Church Fire Update #5: Work has begun in
earnest, cleaning the walls of our church. It is a
massive and painstaking job. The two questions I am
asked most frequently are “Have they caught the
person(s) who started the fire?” The answer is “Not
yet!” Law enforcement officials at all levels (local, state, and
federal) have been most helpful and are following up on several
leads. The second question is “How long will it take to finish the
clean-up job?” And the answer is “We don’t know!” We do
hope to “return to normal” by Holy Week and Easter. Keep
those fingers crossed! I will continue to share with you any
news I hear. “What I know, you will know!”
Just a reminder: Monday to Friday daily Masses (7:00am
and 7:00pm) and Tuesday and Thursday (8:30am) are in the
Borromeo Room, first floor, Parish Activities Center. Friday
8:30am Mass is in the Corrigan Gym. If there is NO SCHOOL
on a Friday (due to snow or cold cancellation or no classes
scheduled that day) the 8:30am Mass will be in the Borromeo
Room
Here’s a final reminder about this Monday’s February 18,
Ladies Guild Day of Recollection. Our guest speaker will be
Sister Mary Ann Flannery. Men and women are welcome to
attend. Join us for a Continental Breakfast, served from 9:00 till
10:00am. Bring a brown bag lunch or enjoy a meal for a $2.00
charge. It all will happen in the Lower Parish Hall. You’ll be
on your way by 3:00pm. That’s Presidents’ Day--there’s no
school; so the Charles Avenue parking lot is all yours.
The 2019 Catholic Charities Campaign is well underway.
If you did not fill out a Charities envelope at Mass last weekend,
please do so today. You will find Catholic Charities materials at
the end of the pews. You may give a one-time gift, or pledge
over a ten- month period. Return your completed Catholic
Charities pledge form in the regular offertory; we will forward
all materials to the Charities Office. Remember, "the one in need
may be Christ indeed.” Thank you for your continued generosity
to the many causes that support the corporal works of mercy, in
our parish, in our neighborhood, and in our Diocese.
Last fall, several parishioners asked about a Summer 2019
Irish Tour. The number of those who eventually signed up did
not meet the minimum number required, so the Summer 2019
Tour is not going to happen. However, Summer 2020 is another
matter. On Saturday, August 29, 2020, the University of Notre
Dame and the U.S. Naval Academy will face-off at a football
game in Aviva Stadium, Dublin. We are now planning an Irish
Tour for that time. We did this in 2012, when Notre Dame last
played Navy in Dublin, and we had ninety-five fans accompany
us. (About thirty-five opted to attend the game.) Tentative dates
would be the last two weeks of August 2020 OR the last week of
August and the first week of September 2020. Check your
calendar and we will talk more about it this summer.
Ward Two Parma City Councilperson Debbie Lime has done
an outstanding job in coordinating the “Polish Village” concept
in our neighborhood. Anything that strengthens this area
certainly benefits all of us. This Saturday, February 23, from
5:00 till 7:00pm, plan to attend the “International Taste of
Polish Village” scheduled for our Lower Parish Hall. Call 440-
532-1823. I am told only a limited number of tickets are still
available.
Merici Chapel… We spend so much time in our
lives planning & preparing for special events,
weddings, graduations, birthdays, birth of a child.
Our most important goal as Christians is prepar-
ing for our Eternal Home. In a few short weeks,
Lent begins, so it’s not too early to start & think what we are
going to do to make this Lent more spiritual & faith-filled.
A good place to start is a weekly visit to Merici Chapel &
start our plans with Jesus.
All Men & Women are invited to attend the…
LADIES GUILD DAY OF RECOLLECTION

(President’s Day)

There is a parish collection of new or gently used eye
glasses through next Sunday, February 24. Collection
bins will be set up in the entrances to the church. The
glasses will be donated to the West Side Catholic Center.
Any donations are appreciated, and they will go a long way
to help those in need. Thank you.
LENTEN BOOKS AVAILABLE Back in Advent, we made available copies of a
seasonal prayer reflection booklet entitled, “The
Little Blue Book.” These are published by the
Diocese of Saginaw and contain helpful daily
entries to serve as an aid to prayer. Anyone
interested in a copy of “The Little Black
Book” (Lent 2019) are asked to stop at the Parish Office.

To learn what NOT to do, and what you CAN do to draw your loved one back to the Church.
“Drawing Your Loved One Back to the Church”
How many of us know someone who was raised Catholic but has lost their faith? Perhaps it is your adult child? Perhaps it is a sister, brother, parent, good friend, or a colleague? We want to reach out to them, we want to invite them home. But we are met with a range of hearts. Some are hostile. Others are apathetic. Many are unwilling to have a conversation.
