experience3. Think Conceptually

Conceptual thinking and strategic planning are done primarily by top management in corporations. However, a big advantage of an MBA over a non-MBA is the ability to think in larger terms – that is, to transcend the numbers and to think about the overall problem. The more you develop this skill in graduate school, the more successful your career will be.

4. Learn to Write and Speak Clearly, Concisely, and LogicallyTo get through the written exams, papers and projects, plus the verbal challenges, two skills are necessary. First, you must be able to “crunch” the numbers and analyze the data. Second, and equally important, you must be able to express yourself both orally and on paper. IF you are not a clear and logical writer and speaker, get help and practice.

5. Know Where to Get Help if You Need ItBusiness school is tough. Everyone needs help, some more than others. If you are having trouble academically, seek help from your instructor, classmates, or the Keller staff. Remember, the Keller Computer Help Desk and Tutor are only a phone call away!

6. Keep it All in PerspectiveNever lose sight of your goal! After you have worked yourself to the bone, relax and enjoy. Keep repeating to yourself, “It’s only graduate school.” It’s true that you will have to put in the hours, but it’s also true that you will learn a lot, make new contacts, and enjoy your accomplishments. Stay disciplined and committed to achieving your goal of earning a graduate degree.
