DOROTHY M. AINSWORTHDVM, Phd DiplomateAmerican College of Veterinary Internal MedicineDorothy M. Ainsworth is a Board-Certified LargeAnimal Internist who has worked at the Cornell

University Hospital of Animals, Ithaca, NY since 1991. After hav-ing completed her residency training in Equine Medicine (Michi-gan State University, East Lansing, MI), she undertook PhDstudies in pulmonary and exercise physiology at the Universityof Wisconsin (Madison, WI). Her research interests includeneonatal infectious disorders and equine pulmonary inflamma-tory conditions.

TIM BRAZILBVSc, PhD, Cert EM (Internal Medicine),DECEIM, MRCVSTim Brazil qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon fromLiverpool University in 1988 and has spent most of

his career working with equids of different shapes and sizes.That time has been divided between University posts in equinemedicine/respiratory medicine research and private equinepractice. He holds a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Cer-tificate in Equine Internal Medicine and is a recognised Euro-pean specialist in Equine Internal Medicine. He was awarded aPhD from Edinburgh University in 1999 for studies on lung in-flammation in the horse. In 2005 he established an ambulatoryequine internal medicine consultancy service (Equine Medicineon the Move) based in the Cotswolds providing diagnostic andsecond opinion services to equine practices throughout the UK.Despite having spent the last 12 years in private practice he con-tinues to teach Veterinary students and regularly contributes tocontinuing education meetings and conferences for practicingequine vets. He is a consultant to The Brooke, a charity that pro-vides free health care to working equids in some of the world’spoorest communities for whom he runs a clinical audit pro-gramme worldwide.

GUIDO CASTELLANODVM, RomaDr. Guido Castellano graduated in Veterinary Med-icine at the University of Perugia in 1984 follows aspecialization in Medicine and Surgery of the

Horse at the University of Teramo in 2003. Currently is the Vet-erinary Director of the General Command of Carabinieri. Profes-sor at the University of Camerino from 2000 to 2010. Presidentof the Central Veterinary FISE committee and President of theAnti-Doping FISE Scientific Committee.

MICHELLE M. LEBLANCDVM, DACTMichelle LeBlanc received her DVM degree fromMichigan State University in 1977. After graduationshe was in a mixed animal practice in Elkton, MD

until 1980 when she joined the faculty at the College of Veteri-nary Medicine, University of Florida. She held the positions ofProfessor and Director of the Equine Research program for theCollege. In January 2002 she joined Rood and Riddle EquineHospital. While at the U of Florida she received numerousawards including the Carl J Nordon Distinguished Teacher andthe McDaniels Clinical Research Award for her work with oxy-tocin in infertile mares. Michelle is a 1982 Diplomate of theAmerican College of Theriogenologists and is a past presidentof the College. She received the Theriogenologist of the YearAward from the ACT in 2000 for her research, teaching andservice efforts. She has published on the areas of mare infertil-ity and perinatology and holds the patent on the equinecolostrometer. She is a member of the Committee for Interna-tional Symposium on Equine Reproduction and is a past boardmember of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.She is presently one of two Theriogenologists on staff at RREHin central Kentucky. She divides her professional time betweenLexington KY and consulting in Ocala, FL.

MARCO LIVINIDVM, MilanoDr. Marco Livini was born in Milan in august 24th

1962, graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 1988The first experience in equine medicine are con-

ducted abroad in Sweden for 3 months at the clinic of Dr. Pe-terson. In 1990 he began working in the gynecology field inScone in Australia and then for other 6 months in Ireland withDr. Stefania Bucca. In Ireland at Rathbarry Stud he works ashead of the stud farm for the stallions of the National Hunt Hereturned to Italy in 1991 and began working with Dr. CesareRognoni with whom he works for a breeding season at “Alleva-menti Toniatti”. After the breeding season continues the collab-oration with the veterinary Luxardo and Rognoni, of which hebecame a partner in 1994. Currently he is still part of the “Ip-povet Veterinary Associates” based in Carpiano (Milan). In 2001he became the SIVE regional referee in 2005 he is one of SIREcoordinator. Joined the SIVE Board he became president from2009 to 2011. Currently covering the position of past-president.Its activities are concentrated in gynecology and managementof stallions.

DALE L. PACCAMONTIDVM, MSDr. Paccamonti completed his undergraduate andveterinary education at Michigan State University,receiving his D.V.M. in 1981. After four years in a

mixed practice in Chestertown, Maryland, he pursued advancedtraining at the University of Florida where he completed a resi-dency in Theriogenology and received his M.S. degree. Dr. Pac-camonti joined the faculty at Louisiana State University in 1988where he is currently a Professor of Theriogenology and Headof the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Dr. Pacca-

monti is a Diplomate and former President of the American Col-lege of Theriogenologists and a member of the American Vet-erinary Medical Association, the American Association ofEquine Practitioners, and the Society for Theriogenology, andcurrently serves on the International Equine Reproduction Sym-posium Committee.

RICHARD J. PIERCYMA, VetMB, MSc, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM, MRCVSReader in Comparative Neuromuscular Disease,Royal Veterinary College, London, UKRichard qualified from Cambridge University in

1994. After two years in private equine practice he moved to theUSA and completed a residency in equine internal medicine atThe Ohio State University and a Master of Science degree inmuscle physiology and disease. He returned to the UK to com-plete doctoral training in molecular and cellular biology of neu-romuscular diseases as a Wellcome Fellow at the Dubowitz Neu-romuscular Centre, Imperial College from where he attained hisPhD. Richard is a Diplomate of the American College of Veteri-nary Internal Medicine and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Im-perial College and University College London. In 2010 he was ap-pointed to the position of Reader in Comparative NeuromuscularDisease at the Royal Veterinary College. Richard’s research in-terests include comparative aspects of primary muscle disor-ders, including exertional rhabdomyolysis, polysaccharide stor-age myopathy and atypical myopathy in horses, centronuclearmyopathy and dystrophin-deficient muscular dystrophy in dogsand Emery Dreifuss muscular dystrophy in humans. His labora-tory also has a growing international programme of research in-to recurrent laryngeal neuropathy in horses. In addition, with col-laborators at the RVC’s Structure and Motion laboratory, he hasan active research interest in the use of gait analysis for objec-tive assessment of equine ataxia, particularly in cervical vertebralstenosis (Wobbler syndrome) in horses. Richard directs theComparative Neuromuscular Diseases Laboratory, which pro-vides a service for the histopathological assessment of musclebiopsy samples from veterinary clinical cases across Europe.

SARAH E. POWELLMA, VetMB, MRCVSSarah graduated from the University of Cambridgein 2002 and went on to complete an equine intern-ship in Canada before returning to the UK to first

opinion equine practice in the South of England. Sarah joinedRossdale & Partners, Newmarket in 2005 as an assistant and isnow one of four senior orthopaedic clinicians at RossdalesEquine Diagnostic Centre. For the last 5 years she has been re-sponsible for the development and running of the MagneticResonance Imaging department, and, in 2008 oversaw the in-stallation of the Computed Tomography suite. Her day-to-daycaseload concentrates on external orthopaedic referral casesand internal Thoroughbred referrals, with an emphasis on diag-nostic imaging and she heads the three-dimensional imaging

and scintigraphy departments. Sarah speaks widely at interna-tional meetings and has authored book chapters and scientificpapers on a variety of subjects.

MICHAEL W. ROSSDVM, Diplomate, American College of Veterinary SurgeonsDr. Ross is a Professor of Surgery at New BoltonCenter, University of Pennsylvania, School of Vet-

erinary Medicine. Following graduation from Cornell Universi-ty’s New York State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981, hecompleted a large animal internship program there. Dr. Rossthen completed a 3-year large animal surgical residency pro-gram at New Bolton Center where he was appointed Lecturer inSurgery from 1985-1988, Assistant Professor of Surgery from1988-1993, and Associate Professor of Surgery from 1993-1999. Dr. Ross became a Diplomate of the American College ofVeterinary Surgeons in 1986 and is an active member of theAmerican Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Ross hasbroad clinical interests including equine gastrointestinal, respi-ratory, and musculoskeletal surgery, but in recent years hasconcentrated efforts in the area of orthopedic surgery with aparticular interest in arthroscopic surgical techniques. Equinelameness diagnosis and management has always been a clinicalfocus, with a special emphasis in the Standardbred and Thor-oughbred racehorse. Dr. Ross developed and is Director of theNuclear Medicine Program at New Bolton Center and is the au-thor of over 295 scientific papers, proceedings, abstracts andbook chapters. Ross and Dyson’s new lameness textbook andcompanion CD, Diagnosis and Management of Lameness in theHorse, published December 2002 by WB Saunders (ElsevierScience), is the culmination of over 30 years of study and inter-est in clinical examination and management of the lame horse.Ross and Dyson were recognized by the Association of Ameri-can Publishers for outstanding achievement in Professional andScholarly Publishing (2003 award in the field of nursing and al-lied health). The second edition, with a companion website,www.rossanddyson.com was published November 2010.

document. All delegates are asked to return theheadphones at the end of each day. In case ofnon-delivery the attendant will have to paythe entire cost of the headphone.
