Extremely flammable liquid and vapor May cause coughing, dizziness, and headache; Higher concentrations can cause central nervous system depression and unconsciousness Causes redness, pain, drying and cracking of the skin May cause severe irritation to eyes, stinging, tearing, redness, pain If ingested, DO NOT INDUCE vomiting; keep head below hips to prevent aspiration into lungs For spills, isolate area; keep unnecessary personnel from entering

Causes severe eye and skin burns Prolonged skin exposure could cause death May be fatal if inhaled

Contact with other material may cause fire Reacts with some metals Stay out of low areas Toxic fumes may be released in fire situations

Combustible liquid and vapor

Eye irritation experienced as mild discomfort and redness Moderate skin irritation with local redness; repeated contact may cause skin burns Vapor concentrations are attainable which could be hazardous on single exposure Symptoms may include headache, dizziness and drowsiness, progressing to incoordination and unconsciousness



HYDROGEN CHLORIDE GAS, (HCL) ANHYDROUSEMERGENCY; POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS OVERVIEW

Color: ColorlessPhysical State: GasOdor: Pungent (Stinging or Biting Quality)

Causes severe eye and skin burns Irritation with corneal injury, up to permanent impairment of vision, even blindness. Vapors may cause lacrymation (tears) May cause frost-bite type injury due to rapid cooling Single brief (minutes) inhalation exposure to easily attainable concentrations may cause serious adverse effects, even death Lower exposures with prolonged exposure times, respiratory effects, including pulmonary edema Immediate and prolonged health hazard

Causes eye & skin irritation Harmful if inhaled. May cause lung injury Not soluble in water, but reacts slowly at interface to form carbon dioxide gas and polyurea (Polyurea turns into solid and may look like Caustic; white) Single inhalation exposure may cause over-exposure limit Odor and irritancy of this material are inadequate to warn of excessive exposure Keep upwind of spill. Stay out of low areas May cause cancer and is hazardous



Vinyl Chloride


Color: ColorlessPhysical State: Gas, LiquidOdor: Sweet

Danger - Poison! Extremely flammable liquid and vapor - Vapor may cause flash fire May be fatal if inhaled & may cause frostbite May cause central nervous system effects May cause anesthetic effects. Can cause cancer Keep upwind of spill Vapor explosion hazard. Vapors may travel a long distance; ignition and/or flash back may occur Stay out of low areas Eliminate ignition sources. Avoid temperatures above 400°C (752°F)



SUMMARY

Do’s: Use and wear your personal protective equipment when applicable Avoid areas which may normally be dry; some chemicals look like water Stay upwind Evacuate from contaminated areas immediately Notify the Immediate Response Leader, if you discover a spill.

Don'ts Investigate a spill or determine what chemical it maybe Allow personnel into a contaminated area
