Keys to Success
LeadershipSolicit input from the Rescue Team – Be
Open Minded.See the big picture – Don’t get Tunnel
Vision.Know when the democracy stops and the
direction starts.Communicate clearly and effectively –
Insure members understand their objectives
EVERYONE’S A LEADER

Keys to SuccessAllocation of Resources
Know your limitations and request resources early.
Know your key personnel and utilize them accordingly
Commit the right amount of resources to the right task at the right time.

TacticsObjectives
Initial AssessmentOnce air samples and entry checklists have
been completed and the area is safe, deploying “recon” group with SCBA may be appropriate.
Establish safe and specific working parameters for the entry group and remove them from the space if rapid rescue retrieval cannot be achieved.
Rescue systems and SABA should be established whiled recon is being performed.

TacticsRescue Operation
Once the victim is accessed, more accurate information can be attained and a rescue plan implemented that is based on the status of the space and the victim.
If the space presents hazards that cannot be managed with existing resources, the difficult decision must be made to withdraw until those resources can be established.

TacticsEquipment
Develop packs or deployable equipment caches that have prebuilt elements and strategic inventories built around operational tactics.
Tripods for confined spaces should be rapidly deployable. Preplanning confined spaces can present the opportunity to work with employers on creating anchor points, equipment caches, and action plans.

TacticsAlways develop a secondary plan based on
known and potential contingencies.Confined space events can strain resources
immediately – Request needed support as soon as possible.

SummaryThose that call on us have great
expectations often amidst insurmountable odds. Our desire
should be to exceed those expectations every time.
