• Smart Factories• The Smart Factory represents a context-sensitive

manufacturing environment that can handle turbulences in real-time production using decentralized information and communication structures for an optimum management of production processes

• Cost efficient, flexible, Mass customisation• ...

• In addition: Virtual factories, Networked factories,..• Large need for computer support !!! (PLM, PDM,...)


Example: The EuroShoe Project

• The whole digital chain (from client to final product) • Design and develop together (different actors)


The challenge of EUROShoE Project is the design and manufacturing of customized shoes at a reasonable price for consumers at a much higher level of individual satisfaction

Our kids have interest…

• The way they use computers• Functional features & full simulation !• We can learn from these games !• Projects in that topic are being formulated !• Digital models should include as much as possible information

we need within further steps of the product life cycle• Manufacturing, use phase,… (fully paperless )


Digital and smart models of everything...
