What is a SIP Trunk? • SIP trunk is an IP based PSTN Trunk. This first step towards convergence in PSTN
telephony is going to change the landscape of voice communications in India.
• Unlike in traditional telephony, where bundles of physical wires are being delivered from
the service provider to a business, a SIP trunk allows a company to:
• Replace Multiple PRI lines with single physical link scaling from minimum 20 to
1500 voice channels.

• SIP Trunk with 120 channels ensured easy scalability when required
• Requirement of 120 concurrent calls over PRI would have consumed 4 PRI port and
a new media gateway cost. This was saved through SIP trunk solution by providing
one physical link connected to single Ethernet port which is scalable from 20 to
1500 channels
• Genesys interoperability achieved by introducing “Asterisk” box which served the
purpose of registration with Tata Teleservices switch and sends direct SIP call
towards Genesys
• Due to lesser post dial delay, call maturity is faster on SIP Trunk compared to PRI
which makes SIP Trunk an ideal solution best suited for OBD purposes

multiple OBD process with different CLIs from same dialer.

provider and customer had to pay for a single link (instead of 10 as in case of PRI).

also ensured that there is no need for any PRI hardware on their existing G450 gateway
