The Sintel_Mat system

Sintel Van der Hoorn with the Sintel_Mat system is offering solutions to

any kind of challenges concerning automatic fare collection in car parks.

Thanks to software performances and peripheral stations architecture, flexibi-

lity and easy future implementation of adaptable solutions is guaranteed.

For example:

- to centralise different town areas in a server with different connection tech-

nologies to provide integrated data management

- to use stations that issue tickets/tokens of different types in each parking area

- to rent two or four-wheel electrical vehicles with integrated and intercon-

nected payment to the car park

- to provide partial or total parking fee discount equipment in shops connec-

ted to the parking lot

- to manage period subscriptions with other facilities, together with shops

associated with the car park.

Sintel_Mat - your car park is on the WEB

Sintel_Mat and Internet

All the services that the Internet can offer can be easily sup-

plied by Sintel_Mat which has been fully designed and

developed in the Windows environment.

With any browser it is possible to visit the car park web site

and see if there is free space at the time of arrival, to extend

a subscription or to recharge a prepaid card, to make a car

space reservation or to talk to an operator; managers can

access information about the operation of the parking

system and change the work settings.

Sintel_Mat the convenience of the microchip choice

Other advantages

Queue decreasing

High speed car access increases traffic flow; we suggest installation where there are heavy

traffic lanes.

Maintenance

The gravity fall of tokens extremely reduces the number of moving parts and contact parts,

decreasing the need of preventive and corrective maintenance of reading/writing equipment.

Recycling

The microchip has a life of about 100,000 writing cycles. It can almost endlessly be reco-

ded and is always effective and reliable with great economical and ecological advantages.

5

For many years Sintel Van der Hoorn has believed in the transponder tech-

nology and since 1992 it has designed a patented chip coin system. Occasional

users, pressing a button, receive at the entrance an intelligent

token that is automatically collected at the exit and reused by the system. The

subscribers or the prepaid card owners use a transponder in the shape of a

badge or a clip.

Up to which point is it feasible to use the standard magnetic or barcode ticket in

the next future?

The Sintel_Mat token with a microchip reduces car park running expenses:

- uses fewer items

- reduces maintenance

- eliminates wear and tear

- eliminates blocking.

6

The Sintel_Mat system permits the choice of the most suitable type of ticket/token for a specific car park.

From a structural point of view it is not necessary, in the same machine, to change the electronic board and

software but only the ticket/token equipment that can dispense and collect:

- barcode paper tickets

- ISO/TRANSAC paper tickets with magnetic strip

- transponder RFID chip tokens

- ISO/TRANSAC/CHIP CARD /RFID transponder badges or clips for subscriptions or prepaid cards.

Entry and Exit stations

The latest identification technologies

have permitted the construction of

equipments that make use much

easier.

All the very compact components

allow construction of lanes being as

large as vehicle only transit lanes.

It is possible to assemble the most

compact stations now on the market

thanks to the mechanical accuracy of

conveying systems and of ticket/token

emission systems.

Sintel_Mat has the right ticket/tokenfor your car park

The available modular system allows

to handle all kinds of existing tic-

kets/tokens and forms of payment

present on the market.

7

At the exit stations Sintel Van der Hoorn stands for professional implementa-

tion. It simplifies exit operations and offers high security against fare payment

evasion and vehicle theft.

At the exit station it is possible:

- to read a barcode or magnetic ticket and to retain it

- to read and write a second magnetic card such as debit/credit cards

- to return the card

- to verify the vehicle number plate connected to the ticket or the card

- to print and to return the ticket to the user.

Or:

- to collect a RFID microchip token

- to read (at a distance from the station) a proximity card or clip and detect a

subscriber or a prepaid card owner

- to verify the vehicle license plate connected to the token or the card

- to verify a second transponder fixed on the vehicle and to check that both are

valid for the exit

- to pay cash and to get change if due.

The barriers have an action time

of approximately 1 second.

They can be used in underground

entries thanks to their folding

arms. They are complete with all

the necessary components for a

correct installation.

The installation of a second barrier

regulates transit frequency;

it avoids queuing and stops

cheaters who attempt to exit

without paying.

Sintel_Mat the license plate recognition security

t i o n s f o r c o m p l e x s y s t e m s

Artificial intelligence at the service of the car park

The automatic license plate recognition software applies artificial intelligence, arti-

ficial vision and intelligent character recognition and provides the result in less than

1 second.

The system carries out digital license plate recognition by converting the image into

an alphanumeric string which is sent to the transit control station:

- it acquires the picture (one or more) when the vehicle arrives at the lane

- it identifies the area where the license plate is located

- it identifies the shapes inside the area that must be analysed

- it detects the single characters that need processing.

Below: all the individual characters after recognition.

All the characters included in the plate are recognised and the certainty percentage

is calculated for each of them.

Control station

The control station consists of a Personal Computer assem-

bled and tested by Sintel Van der Hoorn. Its configuration

can change depending on the customer's needs: removable

hard disks, multiport RS232, etc.

Computer performances are constantly kept up-to-date with

market standards.

The server and the cashier desk can coexist in the same per-

sonal computer. Other notebooks or desktop computers can

be connected via LAN as additional operator cash desks.

A desktop reader/programmer, a customer display and a

receipt ticket printer are connected to the PCs.

The operator simply inserts the token in the blue circle or

the ticket in the reader and presses a button to confirm the

takings. The remaining functions are performed by

Sintel_Mat.

After payment, the customer will receive the validated token

or ticket required for the exit. If requested the printer can

supply a receipt complete with all payment data and infor-

mation as set up by the parking manager.

The personal passwords assigned to staff are connected to

ten access authorisation levels which permit the manager to

define, as he likes, different authorisation profiles for his

operators.

Mobile_Station

Sintel Van der Hoorn, has been present for years in the

market with palm terminals for street car park.

Now we have completed the Sintel_Mat system with a

portable equipment.

Mobile_Station

All the functions of a permanent station are available inside

a practical, light and handy palm computer which is rechar-

geable and it has got high functional autonomy.

How many times have you had so many cars at the exit that

you have wished you had another exit gate?

Do you need one more exit?

How much does it cost, as to time and money, to increase

the number of car park entries and exits?

Do you need one more entry or cashier station?

This equipment can be a solution for everything. It keeps all

the transactions in its memory and, when required, sends

all the collected data to the supervisor through a serial con-

nection.

This system produces a report of all registered transits if the

palm computer has been used as an entry or exit station,

and of all the collection transactions if it has been set up as

an auxiliary cashier.

It is possible to connect a receipt printer and to identify the

type of user that has made the payment (occasional custo-

mers, subscribers, or prepaid card holders), the total

amount cashed and the operator of the equipment that has

done the operations, as you would be able to do in a per-

manent cashier's desk.

Display

Pass_Gate pedestrian or vehicular access station

A free/full display immediately provides basic information.

A flexible and complete management of area occupation allows users to

obtain useful and quick parking information.

The calculating of free spaces on each floor can be done even if the personal

computer is switched off or the barriers are open.

The system changes automatically from spaces available to full and vicever-

sa blocking and unblocking in real time the entry lanes depending on both

the free spaces and the parameters set by the manager using Sintel_Mat

software.

The update of the number of spaces available in an area or subarea is car-

ried out by a special counting module that also operates the traffic lights insi-

de the parking lot.

The displays can be installed on pedestals, support stakes or hangers.

Pass_Gate, the station for pedestrian access control, allows or denies pedestrian access and it has

the ability to store transit data and send them to the supervisor system.

It is used for elevator control, for pedestrian access to car park areas and for access restrictions to

internal areas of car parks already equipped with vehicle or people access control at external entries.

If access permission is obtained, Pass_Gate will switch on a relay connected to a door or to a turn-

key system.

Sintel_Mat the best software

The Reports

There are many possible reports; Sintel Van der Hoorn

can also create software that satisfies customers' special

requirements. A single click is enough and the operator can

operate the barriers and oversee each type of users.

Town central supervision

Central car park supervision greatly reduces operational

costs and increases both the facility of use and security. All

the data is transmitted in real time to one guarded opera-

ting center so that each parking lot does not need 24 hour

supervision.

A Master PC makes the connections with all the stations

and exchanges data with Slave PCs located in car park

areas or directly with the stations.

The Sintel_Mat software is in charge of the automatic

transfer of all data to all the PCs.

Our intuitive graphical user interface offers problem free

use. Each single action performed by the operators can be

recorded in the database for later analysis. In this way it is

possible to easily identify the operator responsible for the

car park at a certain time. The operator can fulfil the

necessary functions in different ways, issuing new sub-

scriptions and deduction cards, transits and tables mana-

gement, monitoring the alarms etc. The features that make

Sintel_Mat a unique product include the modelling of the

program and the choice of language and currency.

The communication program

The personal computer is connected on line to all the peri-

pheral stations. Therefore it is possible to send all the infor-

mation necessary for correct working to the stations at any

time.

It is also possible to send commands for single functions

when it is necessary.
