Rom 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them

over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; (29) being filled with all

unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness;

full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, (30)

backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, (31) undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; (32) who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving

of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

James 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and

does not do it, to him it is sin.

SINS OF OMISSIONA. This morning we looked at 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and the sins of

omission listed therein.B. We looked at: unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving and

uncontrolled.C. Tonight we will look at Romans 1:28-32 and the same two types

of sin.1. Sins of Commission – Doing those things we should not have

done: sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

2. Sins of Omission – Failing to do those things we should have: unrighteous, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving (covered this morning), unforgiving (covered this morning), unmerciful.

D. We will concentrate our study again on the sins of omission. The “un” prefix means “not”.

I. DON’T BE UNRIGHTEOUS A. 1 John 1:7-9 But if we walk in the light as He

is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (8) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

B. Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

C. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, (10) nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. (11) And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

D. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, (10) and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (11) And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, (12) that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

II. DON’T BE UNMERCIFUL

A. James 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

B. James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

III. DON’T BE UNDISCERNING

A. Exodus 23:8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.

B. 1 Kings 3:9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"

C. Proverbs 28:7 Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, But a companion of gluttons shames his father.

III. DON’T BE UNDISCERNING D. Hebrews 5:12-14 For though by this time

you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. (13) For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. (14) But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

IV. DON’T BE UNTRUSTWORTHY

A. Psalm 41:9 Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.

B. Proverbs 31:10-11 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. (11) The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.

IV. DON’T BE UNTRUSTWORTHY C. Psalm 15:1-5 A Psalm of David. LORD, who

may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? (2) He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; (3) He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; (4) In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the LORD; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change; (5) He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.
