Features

Single row FAG deep groove ballbearings are versatile, self-retainingbearings with solid outer rings, inner rings and ball and cageassemblies.

These products, which are of simpledesign, robust in operation andeasy to maintain, are available inunsealed and sealed variants. Due to the manufacturing processesused, unsealed bearings haveturned recesses in the outer ringfor seals or shields, Figure 1.

Due to the raceway geometry andthe balls, deep groove ball bearingscan support axial forces in bothdirections as well as radial forces.

Due to their low noise level and lowfrictional torque, single row deepgroove ball bearings are particularlysuitable for electrical machinery, ventilators, washing machines andpower tools. The new FAG deep groove ball bearings of Generation C weredeveloped with such applicationsparticularly in mind. Thanks todesign modifications such asimproved bearing kinematics, newseals and cages as well as refinedmanufacturing processes, deepgroove ball bearings of GenerationC have numerous advantages.

Advantages of FAG deep grooveball bearings of Generation C

• Lower noise leveldue to improved quality of balls, optimised surfaces, cage withhigher stability and modifiedosculation

• Lower frictiondue to modified osculation andoptimised surfaces, waviness androundness

• Improved sealing actiondue to optimised position of theHRS seal lips, a matched undercuton the inner ring and axial runningcontact of the seal lip on theinner ring or due to Z seals with a labyrinth function

• Higher cost-efficiencylower energy costs due to lowerfriction; longer grease operatinglife due to reduced strain onlubricant; longer rating life ofsealed bearings due to betterprotection against contamination;reduced grease loss due to bettersealing function.

Sealing and lubrication

Unsealed bearings are suitable forhigh to very high speeds, Figure 1a.

Bearings with the suffix 2Z have gap seals on both sides, Figure 1b. These bearings are lubricated for life using a highquality grease and are suitable for high speeds. In bearings of Generation C, the sealing functionand retention in the outer ring areimproved.Bearings with the suffix 2HRS havelip seals on both sides made fromnitrile butadiene rubber, Figure 1c.These designs are lubricated forlife using a high quality grease andare suitable for moderate speeds. The frictional torque and heat generation are lower than with theprevious RSR seal.By agreement, we can supply bearings with non-contact BRSseals on both sides (suffix 2BRS).The frictional behaviour of thesebearings is just as favourable asthat of bearings with Z seals. If the inner ring is stationary and the outer ring rotates, the lubricant loss is less than that in bearings with Z seals.

Operating temperature

Unsealed deep groove ball bearingscan be used up to an operatingtemperature of +120 °C. For applications at temperaturesabove +120 °C, please contact us.

Deep groove ball bearings with lipseals can be used at operating temperatures from –30 °C to +110 °C, limited by the grease andthe seal material.

Bearings with gap seals can beused at temperatures from –30 °Cto +120 °C.

Bearings with cages made fromglass fibre reinforced polyamideare suitable for operating temperatures up to +120 °C.

Cages

Single row deep groove ball bearings without a cage suffix havea sheet steel cage. Instead of thelug cage previously used, bearingsof Generation C have a more stableriveted sheet metal cage.

The suffix TVH indicates a cagemade from glass fibre reinforcedpolyamide. The chemical resistance of polyamideto synthetic greases and lubricantswith EP additives must be checked. Aged oil and additives in the oilcan impair the operating life ofplastic cages at high temperatures. The oil change intervals must beobserved in all cases.

Design and safety guidelines

Equivalent dynamic bearing load

For bearings under dynamic loading, the following applies:

The values according to the tableFactors e, X and Y are valid for normal fits:• Shaft machined to j5 or k5,

housing machined to J6.

FAG deep groove ball bearings of Generation CDesign and safety guidelines

4

Minimum radial load

In order to ensure slippage-freeoperation, the bearings must besubjected to a minimum radialload. This applies particularly inthe case of high speeds and highaccelerations. In continuous operation, ball bearings with cagemust therefore be subjected to aminimum radial load of the order of P/Cr 0,01.

Speed

If the limiting speed nG is reached,we recommend checking with Schaeffler Application Engineeringto determine whether the conditions– such as lubrication, internalclearance, machining of bearingseats – are being fulfilled.

Axial load carrying capacity

Deep groove ball bearings are alsosuitable for axial loads. If the bearing is subjected to highloads and high speeds, a reducedlife as well as increased frictionand bearing temperature must betaken into consideration.
