FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The Avrio 10Gbps transponders features is designed based on a 300 pin 10Gb transponder document. The transponder module comprises an optical receiver and transmitter pair integrated with electrical Serdes functions. The receiver de-multiplexes a serial 9.953Gb/s to 10.709 Gbit/s optical signal back to 16 bit parallel 622Mbit/s to 670Mbit/s differential LVDS electrical signals. The receiver section includes a PIN photodiode, TIA, post amplifier and de-multiplexer with CDR. The transmitter multiplexes 16 bit parallel 622Mbit/s to 670Mbit/s differential LVDS electrical signals to a single optical signal at 9.953 to 10.709Gbit/s data rate launched into a single mode fiber pigtail. The transmitter section includes EAM laser, laser driver and multiplexer. The transponder module package is a multi-source agreement (MSA) with compliant 300 pin Berg MEG-ARRAY connector. The power consumption is 4W (typical) and voltages supply are -5.2V, +5.0V and +3.3V. A jitter filter cleans up the TX REF clock to compensate for excessive board noise. Access through I2C offers several options to monitor and control the transponder through software. The programming is compliant to the related document released by the 300pin MSA group. For easy system-debugging the transponder offers a serial loop mode and a parallel loop mode. I²C PROGRAMMING This paragraph gives an overview of all I2C functionalities currently provided by AVRIO. It also describes the supported ALARM Signals and Vendor Protected Commands in this program version. For more details about the MSA I2C functionality please refer to the following document: I2C REFERENCE DOCUMENT FOR 300PIN 10G and 40G TRANSPONDER (Edition 3).
