All Team Captains are to report to the Singapore Polytechnics Stadium on the 12th January 2013 at 1300 hrs to make payments for the registration (with payment for food if any) and also for a Team Captains’ briefing. 1. Format of the competition

Individual Ranking

i) Novice Category1st round : 18m with 80cm target face2nd round : 18m with 80cm target face

ii) Standard Category1st round : 30m with 80cm target face2nd round : 30m with 80cm target face

iii) Intermediate Category1st round : 50m with 122cm target face2nd round : 50m with 122cm target face

The Individual Ranking event consists of a total of 72 arrows in 2 rounds. Each round will consist of 36 arrows: 6 ends of 6 arrows. The time limit for each end is 8 minutes. There will be 2 detailings per end and the sequence will start off with; A and B followed by C and D, then C and D followed by A and B and repeated. Archers will be ranked according to their total scores for 72 arrows.* May vary due to attendance

Individual Knockout Event

There will be Individual knockout events for: Novice (Male & Female) Standard (Male & Female) Intermediate (Male & Female) Recurve Open (Male & Female)

The Individual Knockout event will be held at the furthest distance. (18m 80cm face for Novice; 30m 80cm face for Standard; 50m 122cm face for Intermediate; 70m 122cm face for Recurve).

The Top 16 archers of each category will qualify for the individual knockout event. 1/8 & 1/4 Elimination round will consist of 5 ends of 3 arrows per end.Gold and Bronze medal matches will also consist of 5 ends of 3 arrows per end.Each end will last 2 minutes.There will be a cap of 2 archers for the Individual Knockout event from each institution or club. This is to allow all institutions’ archers to have a take at the Individual Knockout event.

The Individual Knockout event is based on set point system. The winner of a set is the archer which has the highest score of the arrows shot for that set. The winner of the set gets two (2) points, if the score is tied both will receive one (1) point. First to reach 6 points will proceed to the next elimination round.

Team Knockout Event

There will the Team Events for: Novice (Male & Female) Standard (Male & Female) Intermediate (Male & Female) Recurve (Male & Female)

The Team Knockout event will be held at the furthest distance. (18m 80cm face for Novice; 30m 80cm face for Standard; 50m 122cm face for Intermediate; 70m 122cm face for Recurve).

The Top 8 teams of each category will qualify for the team event. There will be a possible total of up to 3 teams per category per club deriving from various arrangements for each category due to 9 pax/catergory. (i.e 2 boys, 1 girl, or 2 girls, 1 boy or any other possible combination.)

Each knockout round will consist of 24 arrows: 2 arrows x 3 archers x 4 ends. The time limit for each end is 2 minutes.

1. Lunch will NOT be provided for all competing archers throughout the competition unless you ordered for Sunday.

Rules and Regulations

Archer’s Equipmenti) It is the archer’s responsibility to use equipment which complies with the

rules. If in doubt, the archer will show his/her equipment to the judge(s) before using it in the competition

ii) Any archer found to be using equipment which does not conform to the rules of Singapore Polytechnic Archery Open 2013 Rules will be disqualified.

RECURVE DIVISIONi) A bow of any type provided it subscribes to the accepted principle and

meaning of the word bow as used in target archery, that is, an instrument consisting of a handle (grip), riser (no shoot-through type) and 2 flexible limbs each ending in a tip with a string nock. The bow is braced for use by a single string attached directly between the 2 string nocks, and in operation is held in 1 hand by its handle (grip) while the fingers of the other hand draw, hold back and release the string.

a. Multi-colored bow risers and trademarks located on the inside of the upper and lower limb are permitted.

b. Risers including a brace are permitted provided the brace does not consistently touch the athlete’s hand or wrist.

ii) A bowstring of any number of strands.a. The string may be of different colors and of the material chosen for

the purpose. It may have a centre serving to accommodate the drawing fingers, a nocking point to which may be added serving(s) to fit the arrow nock as necessary and, to locate this point, 1 or 2 nock locators may be positioned. At each end of the bowstring there is a loop which is placed in the string nocks of the bow when braced. In addition 1 attachment is permitted on the string to serve as a lip or nose mark. The serving on the string must not end within the athlete’s vision at full draw. The bowstring must not in any way assist aiming through the use of a peephole, marking, or any other means.

iii) An arrow rest, which can be adjustablea. Any moveable pressure button, pressure point or arrow plate may be

used on the bow provided they are not electric or electronic and do not offer any additional aid in aiming. The pressure point may not be placed any further back than 4cm (inside) from the throat of the handle (pivot point) of the bow

iv) 1 draw check indicator, audible and/or visual may be used provided it is not electric or electronic.

v) A bow sight for aiming is permitted, but at no time may more than 1 such device be used.

a. It must not incorporate a prism, lens, or any other magnifying device, leveling, electric or electronic devices nor will it provide for more than 1 sighting point.

b. The overall length of the sight (tunnel, tube, sighting pin or other corresponding extended component) will not exceed 2cm in the line of vision of the athlete.

c. A sight may be attached to the bow for the purpose of aiming and which may allow for windage adjustment as well as an elevation setting. It is subject to the following provisions:

i. A bow sight extension is permitted;ii. A plate or tape with distance marking may be mounted on the

bow as a guide for marking, but must not in any way offer any additional aid;

iii. The sight point may be a fibre optic sight pin. The total length of the fibre optic pin may exceed 2cm, provided that 1 end is attached outside the athlete’s line of vision at full draw, while the part within the athlete’s line of vision does not exceed 2cm in a straight line before bending. It can only provide 1 illuminated aiming spot at full draw. The fibre optic pin is measured independently of the tunnel.

vi) Stabilizers and torque flight compensators on the bow are permitted. a. They may not:

i. Serve as a string guide;ii. Touch anything but the bow;

iii. Represent any danger or obstruction to other athletes on the shooting line.

vii) Arrows of any type may be used provided they subscribe to the accepted principle and meaning of the word arrow as used in target archery, and that the arrows do not cause undue damage to target faces or butts.

a. An arrow consists of a shaft with head (point) nock, fletching and, if desired, cresting. The maximum diameter of arrow shafts will not exceed 9.3mm; the heads (points) for these arrows may have a maximum diameter of 9.4mm. All arrows of every athlete must be marked with the athlete's name or initials on the shaft, and all arrows used at any end will carry the same pattern and color(s) of fletching, nocks and cresting, if any.

viii) Finger protection in the form of finger stalls or tips, gloves, or shooting tab or tape (plaster) to draw, hold back and release the string is permitted, provided they do not incorporate any device that will assist the athlete to hold, draw and release the string.

a. A separator between the fingers to prevent pinching the arrow may be used. An anchor plate or similar device attached to the finger protection (tab) for the purpose of anchoring is permitted. On the bow hand an ordinary glove, mitten or similar item may be worn but must not be attached to the grip of the bow.

ix) Field glasses, telescopes and other visual aids may be used for spotting arrows:

a. Provided they do not represent any obstruction to other athletes on the shooting line.

b. Scopes must be adjusted so the highest portion of the scope is no higher than the armpit of the athletes

c. Prescription spectacles, shooting spectacles and sunglasses may be used. None of these may be fitted with micro hole lenses, or similar devices, nor may they be marked in any way that can assist in aiming.

d. The spectacle glass of the non-sighting eye may be fully covered or taped, or an eye patch may be used

x) Accessories are permitted: a. Including bracers (arm guards), dress shield, bow sling, belt or

ground quiver and tassel. Foot markers may not protrude more than 1cm from the ground. Devices to raise a foot or part thereof, attached or independent of the shoe, are permitted provided that the devices do not present an obstruction to other athletes on the shooting line, do not constitute a platform which would span or bridge the shooting line, do not anchor the foot to the platform or the platform to the ground, and do not protrude more than 2cm past the footprint of the shoe. Also permitted are limb savers and a tripod for a scope. Wind indicators (nonelectric or non-electronic) may be attached to the equipment used on the shooting line (e.g. light ribbons), electronic wind indicators may be used behind the waiting line.

Eligibility: 1. Open Category:

a) This event is open to all categories of international and local archers using the recurve bow

b) Magnifying Sights are not allowedc) Arrows should have the archer’s initials or name clearly marked

on the shaft

2. Intermediate Category:a) Only archers who have not shot further than 50m in any

competition are allowed to take part in this categoryb) Equipment restriction will be the same as that for Recurve Openc) Arrows should have the archer’s initials or name clearly marked

on the shaft

3. Standard Category:a) Only archers who have not shot further than 30m in any

competition.b) Equipment restriction will be the same as that for Recurve Openc) Arrows should have the archer’s initials or name clearly marked

on the shaft

4. Novice Category:a) Only archers who have not shot in SP Archery Open before

are allowed to take part in this categoryb) Only “dead” plungers are allowedc) No stabilizers are allowedd) No Aluminum/Carbon arrows are allowede) Only full Aluminum & full Carbon arrows are allowed f) The only full carbon arrow allowed is “Carbon Beman Flash”g) Sights should be pushed in to the last hole possibleh) Arrows should have the archer’s initials or name clearly marked

on the shaft

5. Team Category:a) For team events, the crossing of categories is forbidden. For

example, only Novice Open archers are eligible for Novice Open Team event

b) An archer from Club A must not team up with another archer from Club B

c) Only archers participating in the individual event can enroll in the team event

d) Team placement will be according to the total scores of the team’s individual archers

e) For other team categories except Recurve Open, each team must consist of 3 archers of the same gender. Only the best 8 teams from the overall ranking will qualify for the Team Elimination Round, per event. The selected teams will then be ranked against other top teams from other institutions/clubs in an overall table. Only the first team of each category of each gender will proceed into the next round. (i.e, even if a institution have two team inside the top 8, only the first will be picked.)

6. Best Distance Prizesa) Awarded based on highest score for ONE scoring round for

EACH category ONLYb) In the event of a tie for the Best Distance Prize, the winner will

be decided with a One Arrow Shootout, where the arrow closest to X wins

For Compliance by ALL Archers

All archers shall attend equipment inspection.In the event that an archer misses the equipment inspection and should the equipment meet with any discrepancy, the archer will be disqualified. Any archer found in violation of the rules may be disqualified. No refund will be made for disqualified archers.

Team Captains: All clubs are requested to nominate one team member as the team captain/officer of the club. The team captain of each club will be responsible for the well being and the disseminating of information to the respective teams. Team Captain Briefing will be conducted on the 12 th January 2013. Please be present on the day of briefing as there will be NO further briefing on the day of competition itself.

Equipment: Only approved equipment is allowed and will conform to the eligibility set out in the “Rules and Regulations” section. In cases of disputes, the Judges will have the final decision.

Attire: Shorts, skirts or divided skirts for females may be no shorter than the athlete’s fingertips when extended. Trousers or shorts for males may be no shorter than the athlete’s fingertips when extended. No slippers and sandals will be allowed in the field of play (FOP) Dress code for Team event is same design Club Shirt and covered shoes.

Judges: Judges from AAS will be appointed. The judges’ decision regarding all matters will be final.

Please note that this tournament is NOT an AAS-sanctioned competition.
