Things to Bring:

Specific toiletries/hair products you prefer. they are probably cheaper in the States/not available in Singapore.

T-shirts/tanks (it is very hot and humid in Singapore). You will sweat through clothes quickly and laundry is expensive. (4-5dollars) make sure you pack enough.

Guys bring nice pants or khakis for going out.

A pair of scrubs for lab At least one pair of comfortable walking

shoes and sandals. Some kind of rain-proof shoes are also a good idea

A lock for your closet, since your passport will probably stay there.

Sunscreen (another thing that is cheaper in the states)

Bath towel and/or beach towel One set of sheets. Blanket most likely unnecessary unless you are prone to freezing.

Top 10 Places to Visit in Singapore:

Marina Bay – see if you can sneak up to the infinity pool at the top of Marina Bay Sands

Chinatown for the Buddha Tooth Temple and souvenir shopping (Bugis is good for souve-nirs as well)

Beach at Sentosa Arab Street for the coffee Clarke Quay for the night life Eastcoast Parkway– rent bikes and explore.

Nice parks, good seafood. Jurong East (J Cube and GEM- the best malls,

incl. movie theaters & restaurants) and Buona Vista (go to Awfully Chocolate at least once)

Little India –henna and nitrogen ice-cream (only on the weekends)

Botanical Gardens– incl. butterflies and orchids National Museum of Singapore and Asian civi-

lizations museum for history and art Pulau Ubin for bike riding/nature viewing. Be

sure to cross the long bridges to see other parts of the island

Other Places to Explore:

Bali (Indonesia). Bangkok

(Thailand) Pulau Tioman

(Malaysia) Kinabalu

(Malaysia) Hong Kong Philippines

Tips:

Pack approx. 2 weeks worth of clothing. More is unnecessary, and less means you’ll be doing laundry way too often, which is expensive.

Beware the haze, usually around the end of

June. It last for 1-2 weeks and during this time to avoid the air pollution go to Golden Village (Jurong East and Boon Lay) to catch a movie or go explore the malls at Jurong East or Orchard.

Explore as much as possible, it is very easy

to get around on public transit (MRT and busses)

Always check that you have your MRT card
