Background of Terminal - 3• The Singapore Changi Airport served 26 Million Annual Passengers

(MAP) • Expected to experience significant growth in passengers during the

next decade and beyond. • Terminal 3 (T3) building was proposed to increase the capacity of the

airport• Planning philosophy is to provide capacity ahead of demand.

Structural properties

• Primary structure material is glass & steel• Design to create a prominent transparent interior spaces

as a character of terminal building

Page 4: Singapore changi airport (wh)

• Steel trusses supporting the roof structure• Metal mullion holding glass façade of the terminal

• Interior of the terminal using post and beam structure supporting the metal roof

• Column is treated with timber clad to enhance the tropical ambiance

• Glass structure demonstrate the concept of openness and transparency

General Attributes of the People Mover System (PMS)

• Purpose of the PMS is to provide a high level of transportation service for airline passengers, airport employees, and other persons needing to move about airport.

• The system is fully automated • Driverless vehicles will operate on an exclusive, elevated guideway, stopping

at designated stations.• Electrically powered, self-propelled, computer controlled, vehicles configured

in trains will shuttle between stations

• Singapore Changi Airport's Terminal 3 have a flat but intriguing roof consisting of many skylights allowing natural light into the terminal building.

• The roof will limit the amount of direct sunlight into the building through the use of louvres suspended above and below the skylights, filling Terminal 3 with diffused, ambient light during the day.

• At night, artificial light bounced off the ceiling creates a soothing and comfortable environment for passengers.

The roof designed to allow natural light to enter the building, with 919 skylights.

Soft natural lighting lower the temperature and save energy consumption of the terminal

Roof Mechanism - BUTTERFLY LOUVRESPhotovoltaic cells are attached to these panels, serving the purpose similar of the human eyes to open and close automatically without

using electricity to operate

Butterfly shaped reflectors. They are computer controlled to allow optimum amount of diffused sunlight to stream down through 919 skylights so as to make us of natural light instead of using electrical lights.

5 meters high "Green Wall" with hanging creepers and waterfall was incorporated to enhance the tropical feel.

• providing eye rest spot for passengers • Internal vegetation work as micro-climatic garden to regulate the temperature of

the terminal

The green wall, dotted with 25 species of creepers

The terminal is very bright as well because the entire building taps a lot on natural light. They have amazing aluminium louvres on the top so they can reflect an optimum amount of sunlight into the building to save energy

Koi pond at viewing gallery of transit area

The construction of this terminal is special as they’ve fused nature and technology together. The pond provide temperature moderation and a breath of fresh air for arriving tourists.
