SCOUTING’S GREATEST HITS

OF THE FIFTIES, SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES

Akela! Let’s All Sing Together These Cub Scout song records are for the entire family – Cub Scouts, parents, Den and Pack leaders, Committeemen, training instructors and roundtable leaders. The songs in this album include some of the all-time favorites of Cub Scouts and leaders all over America. Some are new, some are old. The records will help you learn the new ones, and help you sing the old ones even better. In teaching and using the songs, you may want to mimeograph some song sheets. To make this easier, we have listed inside this album the words to all the songs. While this album was recorded especially to help you encourage and improve group singing in your Packs and Dens, you will find it invaluable also at training courses, roundtables, and a “background” music at Blue and Gold Banquets, parties, and other Den, Pack, District or Council activities of many kinds. Use it in skits or stunts, ceremonies, during gathering time activities, at openings and closing. To make it easy to choose the selection you want to play, a grooved band separates each song. The first record starts of with The More We Get Together, a dandy rouser for the kick-off of a song period. Then comes the Cub Scout Commercial, a catchy number especially good as an opener or novelty. The Cub Scout Advancement Song is another “warmer-upper” for use at the beginning of a meeting, or as part of an advancement ceremony. The other side of this disc begins with Old Akela Had A Pack, a fun number that challenges a group to stay on the beam and finish together. Ho, Ho, For The Pack is a good all-around song for Pack meetings. The second record opens with one of the newest Cub Scout songs, Webelos On Parade. The words and music of this snappy marching song were written by Charmian M. Raben especially for the Cub Scouts. The Train Song is a clever novelty featuring some ear-catching sound effects. The reverse side begins with a good all-purpose number, Cubs Are Square. Following this is the sprightly Just Us Kids, and a favorite closing song for the whole Scout family, Scouting We Go. As a teaching tool, as a program aid, as just plain “good listening,” you’ll find the Song Record Album a useful and welcome addition to your record library.

ARRANGED AND CONDUCTED BY ARNOLD HOLOP. DIRECTED BY RHYS MORGAN. PRODUCED BY NANETTER GUILFORD, METROPOLITAN OPERA STAR.

The Traditional Cub Scout

These patriotic and traditional songs were a Wolf Scout requirement for many decades before the 2015 program revision.

Learned, sung, and beloved by millions of Cub and Boy Scouts at Pack, Troop and civic gatherings, they are presented here for future generations of American patriots.

39. The National Anthem or The Star Spangled Banner Poem by Francis Scott Key; Tune, “To Anacreon in Heaven” First verse: O say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there; O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? Fourth verse: O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved homes and the war's desolation. Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.' And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

28

40. America or My Country ‘Tis Of Thee Traditional My country, 'tis of Thee, Sweet Land of Liberty Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims' pride, From every mountain side Let Freedom ring. My native country, thee, Land of the noble free, Thy name I love; I love thy rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed hills, My heart with rapture thrills Like that above. Let music swell the breeze, And ring from all the trees Sweet Freedom's song; Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake; Let rocks their silence break, The sound prolong. Our fathers' God to Thee, Author of Liberty, To thee we sing, Long may our land be bright With Freedom's holy light, Protect us by thy might Great God, our King.
