CRITICS
“This young Zadig Trio, which consists of three extraordinarily gifted instrumentalists and, at the same time, truly searching musicians.”
Menahem Pressler
“Strong artistic personality, full of curiosity.”
Artemis Quartet
“They played three works from Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, which included the beautiful “andante con moto”, that they interpreted with brio and a truly moving sincerity, visible on their facial expressions. The public [...] for the first time since the beginning of the concert series, thanked the three gifted musicians with a standing ovation. A pure moment of bliss...”
La Manche Libre, July 11, 2018
“The Zadig Trio played two major works of the piano trio repertoire. Offering both pieces in a single concert demonstrates a fearlessness that usually belongs to very experienced players. In the opening of Beethoven’s “Ghost Trio” for piano, cello and violin, one can already distinguish the first and foremost quality of the ensemble: total cohesion and an intelligent interpretation of the score. Furthermore, a unity of spirits revealed by each phrase and nuance, reinforced by the constant eye contacts between the musicians. [...] The second part of the program was no less demanding, by its length and technical difficulties. The violinist Boris Borgolotto and the cellist Marc Girard Garcia surrounded Ian Barber with total investissement at the service of the score, restituted with prodigious musicality [...] The tragic memories of bereavement [in Tchaikovsky’s piano trio] were communicated with depth and sensitivity, by artists who we can now count among the great.”
Jacques Weil, Colmar International Festival, L’Alsace, July 8, 2018
“Boris Borgolotto, Marc Girard Garcia and Ian Barber form a very homogenous and perfectly balanced trio. To remarkable indivual technical skills, they add musical sensitivity, based on elegance, a diversity in the sound palette, a clarity of phrasing and articulations, as well as a sharp sense of dialog. What is most striking for the listener, is their youthful fervor, very well kept under control, with which they tackle the score, as well as the freedom they demonstrate. [...] The incredible balance between the piano’s ardor, the violin’s lyrical intensity and the cello’s depth captivated the audience, who aupplauded and cheered without restraint.”
Michel Debiard, Sud Ouest, March 7, 2018
RECORDINGS
The Classic Review“With a broad, stilled beauty in the second movement and convincing performance of the finale (listen to the wonderful opening bars’ masterful blend of instruments) – this makes for a memorable version of the Ravel Trio. (...) All in all, a highly enjoyable album.”
ffff TÉLÉRAMA“An inventive disc, with a taste for travel and discoveries.”
CLASSICA ***** “The Zadig Trio distinguishes itself by its high standards, in terms of precision and balance, as well as by the understanding of musical esthetics and the work of the sound.”
