Since the pioneering work of John Francis Cooley in 1900, electrospinning has

become a widely adopted nanostructuring technique due to its versatility in

producing continuous fibres to the range of few nanometres. This special

characteristic has promoted the use of electrospun nanofibers in a wide range of

applications including filtration, tissue engineering, drug delivery, cosmetics,

electronics, sensors and energy.

The National Electrospinning Workshop 2016 (NEW2016) is jointly organized by the

Centre of Advanced Materials (CAM), Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya

and the National Nanotechnology Directorate (NND) of Ministry of Science

Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in collaboration with Progene Link Sdn Bhd.

This workshop aims to provide a platform for exchanging information on the latest

advances and challenges in electrospinning and its applications. A series of public

lectures will be delivered by researchers/specialists from IPTA and IPTS on topics

related to electrospinning.

On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the National Electrospinning Workshop 2016 (NEW2016). The NEW2016 is jointly organized by the Centre of Advanced Materials (CAM), Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya and the National Nanotechnology Directorate (NND) of Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in collaboration with Progene Link Sdn. Bhd. The intention of this workshop is to provide a platform for exchanging information on the latest advances and challenges in electrospinning technique and its applications. I believe this workshop will help the researchers to develop new innovative ideas for research collaboration and hence lead to product commercialization. In addition, I sincerely hope that by attending this workshop, it will enable the building of a productive dialogue among the researchers, academicians and industries who share common interest. Besides that, I believe that it will provides an invaluable opportunity for networking and fruitful contacts among all. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the organizing and technical committees for their valuable contribution and support to make this event a success. I would also like to show my appreciation to the Centre of Advanced Materials, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya for their endless support. Our gratitude also goes to NND and the NND staff for their sincere advice and effort in organizing this event. Thanks to our sponsor Progene Link Sdn Bhd, Adastra IP Malaysia, Nanolab Sdn. Bhd., RGS Corporation Sdn. Bhd. for their support to get this workshop run smoothly. Last but not least, I would like to record my thanks to our 9 speakers for their valuable sharing that will definitely work as a catalyst in inspiring the attendees. Finally, I would like to thank you all for coming to this workshop. I hope you find this workshop both useful and enjoyable. Ir. Dear Participants, On behalf of the Centre of Advanced Materials, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya , I wish you a warm welcome to this workshop. As many of the developments in advanced materials are in the field of nanostructured materials, spinning nanofibres is an exciting way to create materials with novel properties and characteristics. We are very glad to organise this workshop in cooperation with the National Nanotechnology Directorate (NND) and would like to thank the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) for their support and also thanks to all speakers and participants for making this event a success. I would like also to express my thanks to Ir. Dr. Ang Bee Chin and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andri Andriyana for organising this event. I hope everyone will have a chance to bring themselves up to date with the latest developments in this technology and to share their experiences. For those of you from outside Kuala Lumpur, I hope you have a chance also to explore our beautiful city. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Henk Metselaar, CEng MIMechE Head Centre of Advanced Materials Faculty of Engineering University of Malaya
