SINAMICS S120, the specialist for high dynamic and complex drive
applications
S120
As a result of its flexible modular system, the high-performance S120 can be
scaled to address different drive applications. It has been perfected when it
comes to dynamic performance, axis coordination, torque and positioning
accuracy.
This is the reason that it is suitable for applications in rack feeder, continuous
material webs and cyclic, high-speed processes such as with presses, roller
feeds and packaging machines.
The S120 is available in the following versions as:
• Single-axis drive (AC/AC)
• Multi-axis drive, consisting of control unit,
infeed, motor and option modules
• Distributed multi-axis drive in IP 65, like the multi-axis drive but with motor-
mounted power unit.

Functions
Drive Control Chart (DCC) extends the unit functionality through freely
available control, calculating and logic blocks for simple, graphic configuring
of drive-specific control / logical and calculating functions.
Basic technological functions. The Control Unit CU320-2 allows to
combine individual drives and implement coordinate technological functions.
Easy Positioner EPos: The easy positioner allows to solve clearly
structured and simple Motion Control tasks on the drive without additional
external technological expenditure.
PID technology controller: The technology controller allows to implement
e.g. filling level, temperature, tension, pressure, flow and dancer position
controls.
Multiple standard functions: Setpoint specification, data set switchover,
controller optimization, kinetic buffering...

booksize format
With SINAMICS S120, Siemens is offering a modular system to
address sophisticated and demanding motion control
applications in industrial plant and machinery construction.
The SINAMICS S120 drive system is available in the blocksize,
booksize and chassis formats – as well as cabinet units. The
latest innovation for this drive system are the SINAMICS S120
booksize Motor Modules. These have been innovated in the
range from 3 to 30 A, are compatible regarding
spare/replacement parts to existing booksize products – and
offers users real value added enhancements.

The modular SINAMICS S120 drive system addresses high performance applications. It offers individual
AC/AC drives as well as coordinated DC/AC drives for multi-axis applications – and is therefore the perfect
basis for plant and machine concepts.

For the cabinet bushing of the hybrid cable (IP65 at both ends) and the DRIVE-CliQ cable (for >

Reduces the voltage load on motor windings and the Power Module
load through capacitive reactive currents on longer motor cables

The project can be set up using the electronic rating plates of the drive
components.
The STARTER offers guided commissioning via Wizards and graphic
screens for standard applications.

The usability is continuously enhanced.
Multi-channel oscilloscope function (Trace) optimizes commissioning,
operation and troubleshooting.
