Preface

This manual explains all functions of the SAEL SIMS security information manage-ment software. With the SAEL SIMS you can control and protocol all your security related systems (burglar, fire, access control, building management) in your entire company

Please note that all pictures in this manual will use user level 9 (highest user level). With a lower user level some options will not be visible.

Standard Setup

Small system with up to 4 centrals:

The SAEL S9 centrals are connected over RS232 (or RS485 if you use long ca-bles). The NOX system is connected directly by Ethernet (over TCP/IP). You can connect up to 4 systems to one workstation.

Large system with up to 64 Centrals (Burglar, fire, etc.)

If you have a large system, all centrals are connected to the SIMS server. These centrals can be connected over RS232, RS485, telephone leased lines or existing Ethernet or Token ring networks. You can connect up to 64 systems from different manufacturers.

It is also possible to connect up to 32 workstations to this server. Each worksta-tion with individual rights. Also, already existing workstations with Windows 2000 can be used.

System requirements

Workstation:MinimumIntel Pentium-III system, 500 MHz with 256 MB Ram and Windows 2000 Worksta-tion, 17“ Monitor or LCD (1024*768 or 1280*1024).

SuggestedIntel Pentium-4 system with 2 GHz, 256 MB Ram and Windows 2000, 17“ Monitor or LCD,color printer and backup system with Streamer/DAT tape.

Server:If you want to keep track of all log messages, the server must run 24h/day. Hardware requirements: same as for the workstation

First system start

When you start the system by double-clicking the icon on your desktop you will see the startup window. While showing the startup window, the connection to the server is established and all data is loaded.

After loading all required data, the login screen is shown.

System login

Please enter the username and password you received from your system admin-istrator

Note: The password is case sensitive!

The main screen

After a successful login the main screen will be displayed.

On the main screen you will see the following information:

System status:Black normal informationYellow not critical informationRed critical errorDetails show more detailed information on centralsServicemode starts the function service mode

Shows the name of the currently logged user. It is possible to show a photo of the user. This will be shown here.Slave ID: shows the id (end of IP address of this workstation)Database: shows the database which is used by this workstation (normally NOX)

On the right side, you will see a selection of functions the user can select. Which options are shown depends on the users rights.

Alarm Currently activated alarms (will only be displayed, if there are active alarms)

Setting Error

If an area setting cannot be executed, the cause for the setting problem can be viewed by pressing the button “Setting Error”:

The Setting Error window gives you the following possibilities:

Deactivate detectordeactivate the selected detector. Now you can arm the area. Any deactivated de-tector will not trigger any alarm until the detector is reactivated (manually or by disarming the area)

Protocols

All actions on the system are logged. You can show these logs using the function protocols.

The following protocols are available:

User all functions executed by all users

Alarms alarms and alarm-edit information

Movements all movements on the system (detector open/closed)

Pager all pager messages (optional).

User protocol

In this window you can specify the timeframe from which you would like to see the history information.

If you want, you can select specific users from whom you want to show the infor-mation.By entering a key word or text in the following field, only log messages contain-ing this information are searched from the database.

Page 17: SIMS4 E

Alarm protocol

This window displays the alarm protocol. You can limit the alarms shown by se-lecting a specific time period, certain centrals, input types, alarm types and alarm causes.

If you select “Overview”, the alarms are shown in a list.By selecting “Time”, “Time per Day” or “Month”, the alarms will be shown graphi-cally.

Movement protocol

With the movement protocol you can see all movements in the system.

On the left side, you see the list of centrals. If you select a central, the detectors of this central are shown on the right side. Now select the detectors you want to look at.

SAEL SIMS user manual page 18 Sauter Communication AG, Vaduz

Page 19: SIMS4 E

On the right side in the field „Open“ the duration of the detectors active status is shown.

If you want a print out, simply press the button “Print list”. You can print only a part of the list by marking those entries in the list with the mouse.

Logs

Shows you the logs from all the centrals. Select the Time frame and the type of log you want to see.

The information shown can be limited by entering a text into the field “only show entries with the following text”.

Example: If you want to show all settings of area “Floor 0” enter this text into the text field and press “Show”.

Note: You can limit the information to print by selecting the lines in the list you want to print with the mouse.

Alarms

If you have an alarm on a central, this alarm will be shown in the alarm window.

You can see immediately where in your building the alarm was triggered. If you have more than one alarm, all alarms are shown. In the bottom of the screen you can see the list of active alarms.

At the beginning of each line of this list, you can see if the detector is still acti-vated. If the symbol is shown, the detector is closed again.

On the right side of the window you have the following options:Edit Alarm lets you edit this alarm and save all information about this
