The MultiMic highlights.

The new AURIGA:

simply brilliant both in technology and sound.

Omnidirectional:

The microphone characteristics are switched to static omnidirectional. Signals from all directions are received by the microphone with the same sensitivity.

Directional adaptive:

On the basis of environment detection, the multi-channel MultiMic microphone system is capable of setting the respective optimum microphone characteristics in each case.

The focus is placed on signals coming from the front. Up to four moving rear frequency- independent sources of noise can also be faded out to optimize speech clarity.

If there are multiple interfering noise sources within the same frequency range, the source with the highest intensity is suppressed.

Speech Beam:

In certain situations, such as in the car, the speech signal can also reach the hearing system from the side or from the rear. Speech Beam therefore does not focus on detecting noise signals from the rear, but is capable of detecting speech and also of determining the direction of the incoming speech. Depending on the angle of arrival, corresponding microphone characteristics are then configured automatically.

In the case of speech arriving from the front, this is directional adaptive. If speech from the side is detected, then cardioid microphone characteristics are selected; for speech from the rear, anti-cardioid characteristics are selected accordingly with reduced frontward sensitivity.Speech Beam ensures greater understanding in situations where it is not possible to turn the head in the direction of the speaker.

Natural Sound:

In BTE systems, the sound is not picked up in the ear but above the ear. Thus the natural influence of the ear (pinna effect) on the sound is completely eliminated and the signal produced sounds more unnatural. There is also an influence on the ability to localize noise sources since the natural directional effect is also impaired.

Natural Sound technically simulates the frequency-specific behavior of the outer ear such that similar directionality to that of the unaided ear is achieved (high frequencies: directional, low frequencies: omnidirectional). The hearing instrument wearer enjoys natural sound and can distinguish more easily whether a sound is coming from behind or in front.

Natural Sound works in combination with adaptive microphone systems. The benefits of Natural Sound can therefore be used in omnidirectional mode. In directional mode, up to four frequency-independent sources of noise can be faded out.

The transition between the various settings is slow and therefore can not be heard by the user.

The unique MultiMic microphone technology of the AURIGA system ensures that in any situation, the micro-phone characteristics are automatically adjusted to ensure optimum speech intelligibility.

Adaptive MultiMic technology with Speech Beam and Natural Sound.

This innovative technology enables automatic focusing on speech from various directions (from in front, behind, and from the side) on the basis of environment detection, and restoration of the pinna effect with simultaneous adaptive reduction of up to four independent noise sources.To meet the individual requirements of those wearing the hearing instrument, there are four different possible settings for programming the microphone system.

The adaptive highlights.

Active Feedback Block 2G.

AURIGA uses next-generation phase cancellation feedback management systems. With Active Feedback Block 2G, feedback greater than 1100 Hz (and therefore significantly sooner than comparable systems) is eliminated without affecting amplification and sound quality.

The signal amplified by the hearing system is automatically „marked“ with a phase modulation that cannot be heard by the user. This marking is used to identify signals already processed by the hearing system and feedback can then be detected by the AURIGA signal processing quickly and with certainty.

In order to implement rapid and artifact-free elimination, the signal in the feedback case is given a temporary frequency shift of 25 Hz. This shift enables the extremely rapid adjustment of all parameters in the AURIGA system necessary for elimination of the feedback. Feedback is then eliminated through the addition of a phase-rotated (shift by 180°) signal. In comparison to previous systems, there is an additional feedback-free gain of approximately 11 dB.

This system is complemented by the Open Optimizer for open fittings. Here, the multi-channel MultiMic system in the high-frequency channels can be switched as needed to a directional mode. The input sensitivity towards laterally incident high-frequency acoustic signals is reduced, and re-entry into the auditory system is prevented.The Open Optimizer increases the feedback-free gain by about 4 dB with background noise and by about 7 dB when there is no external noise.

Acclimatization Manager.

The optimal configuration of a hearing system based on the existing level of hearing loss is frequently not sponta-neously accepted by the customer. This can result in rejections of e.g. the sound or volume depending on the listening experience.

The Acclimatization Manager takes this effect into account. On the basis of the optimal target frequency response determined, with AURIGA this functionality enables a configuration that is acoustically pleasing to the customer to be found which can then be used as a starting point for the automatic acclimatization.

Some predefined modifications based on the target frequency response (initial situation: too shrill, too loud, increase of spontaneous acceptance) are available, taking into account the different requirements for first-time and experienced hearing system wearers.

To be able to respond individually however, there is also the option of programming the starting frequency response for the automatic acclimatization completely freely.

Over a definable period (two weeks, two months, or six months), AURIGA hearing systems now automatically approach the previously determined optimum target frequency response. The acclimatization progress over time, and therefore the change in frequency response, can be reviewed at any time making this system ideal for supporting a professional fitting.

Situation Optimizer.

AURIGA detects different environmental situations (speech, background noise, speech in background noise, music) and then implements the appropriate control processes.

In the case of music for example, the unit switches to an omnidirectional microphone characteristic and adaptive parameters are disabled. In the case of speech in back-ground noise, the directional microphone characteristic is active and the adaptive parameters are also fully working. The aim is to provide the customer with optimum configu- ration of the microphone characteristics and control parameters automatically and at any time according to the situation.

The Situation Optimizer expands this functionality to include an automatic modification of the frequency response based on the classification results. Thus a completely different frequency response can be activated for different situations without the hearing system wearer having to manually change the program. The result is therefore an additional positive effect in terms of sound and on speech intelligibility in greatly fluctuating acoustic environments.

A frequency response modification can be individually programmed for each of the situations detected.

The Media highlights.

Bluetooth functionality and i-com2.

The settings for both hearing systems are automatically synchronized on a continual basis using the innovative i-com2 technology. The synchronization relates to various system parameters: configuration of microphone charac-teristics, voice detection operation, noise reduction, Sound Impulse Management, and feedback management.Each hearing system is equipped with its own environment detection logic. To ensure that both hearing systems can work synchronized, a decision matrix is used continuously.

Manual changes to volume or the switching of programs are also synchronized to prevent different volume and program settings on each side. Sources of noise can therefore be located much better than with hearing systems which work independently, since the natural time intervals and differences in noise levels which are impor-tant for directional hearing are preserved.Hearing system wearers experience a true binaural fitting with balanced sound and better speech intelligibility in noisy environments.

i-com2 enables stereo transmission combined with a wide transmission bandwidth with low power consumption. The use of Bluetooth functionality is therefore possible with the Media remote control and the Media Transmitter.Going beyond the traditional functions of a remote control, using Bluetooth and i-com2, Media provides a wireless connection between the hearing systems and various different external signal sources.

If Media is used together with a Bluetooth-compatible telephone, it communicates with the hearing systems, enabling them to be used like a headset. The telephone signal can be heard in both hearing systems. The incom-ing call is indicated and can be accepted and also ended again using Media or rejected from the start.

In addition, with Media, the hearing systems work like stereo headphones. To enable this, the Media Transmitter supplied with Media can simply be connected to the television or other audio system. Via Media, the audio signal is transmitted wirelessly to the hearing systems. A special Bluetooth protocol ensures that the television image and sound are always perfectly synchronized. The maximum distance between the Media Transmitter and Media is approximately 10 meters. Audio systems can also be directly connected to Media (direct audio).Incoming telephone calls always take precedence so that a telephone call can also be indicated and answered even when the Media Transmitter is also being used.

Media must be programmed together with the respective AURIGA hearing systems. For this Media is connected to a USB port on the computer using a special programming cable.

To simplify the use of Media, individual names can be defined and programmed for the five programs (e.g. theater, home). A text to be displayed when Media is switched on (e.g. next service appointment with date) can also be programmed.

The frequency range for the Bluetooth standard is limited to 7500 Hz. This limitation is removed by the Hifi Sound function implemented in AURIGA and the user is provided with a broadband signal with optimum sound quality for telephone calls and listening to music.

Naturally the AURIGA range also includes a conventional remote control. Simple to use with a discreet design – eMote2 includes the following functions:

Domes are available in a wide range of dimensions to achieve optimum fit in the auditory canal and to achieve the appropriate sound pressure level required. All variants come with cerumen protection.

It is strongly recommended that the P receivers are only fitted with individually manufactured earmolds.

Installing and programming.

For programming, software version CONNEXX 6.4.2/HANSAFIT 6.9 or later must be installed.

AURIGA X-Mini is connected to the computer by means of a special adapter which is inserted into the battery compartment instead of the battery.

Special gauges are available for receiver selection. A gauge is used to determine the potential receiver size for production of the earmold. A further gauge is used to determine the receiver length.

The length gauge (black) is placed on the wearer‘s ear. The tip of the tragus determines the correct length of the receiver. The number on the length gauge in line with the tragus tip is found on the respective receiver.

Changing the housing color to suit personal taste is extreme- ly easy. Color exchange kits are supplied for this purpose and contain all the required elements.

The top case has built in microphone protection. The top case should therefore be replaced at regular intervals (approximately every 3 months) to prevent acoustic impair-ment to the system due to a soiled microphone. The specially developed Mic Cover Exchange Kit can be used to do this.

Replacing the receiver unit.

1. Turn the old receiver unit 45° anti-clockwise.

3. Insert new receiver unit. The marks must match up with one another!

2. Remove the receiver unit.

4. Turn receiver unit 45° clockwise.

The fitting software detects the respective receiver automatically so that the receiver required for the

hearing loss in question can be easily selected.

Tube selection.

The AURIGA Mini is fitted using the white HANSATON length gauge. Six different tube lengths (right/left) are available.

Seven different domes are available to ensure optimal fit in the auditory canal:

AURIGA Slim:

the beautiful new slim unit from HANSATON.One of the most state-of-the-art Behind-The-Ear hearing systems, which thanks to its elegant and refined design barely betrays the power it has hidden within. The new AURIGA Slim from HANSATON represents the best performance that this hearing instrument manufac-turer has to offer.Particularly beautiful and particularly varied: thanks to its

alternate shell design, its two-colored paintwork and its eight natural shades, AURIGA offers much scope for individual preference.

The rocker switch is new: fitted in metallic silver for all Slim color combinations apart from beige and grey. A version in the top case color is also supplied.

Removal of the side marking.

The side marking is removed from the inside out of the battery slot using a suitable tool.

Replacement of the side marking.

Slide the side marking completely into the battery slot (the mechanical spring element must be poin-ting towards the inside of the battery slot).

1. Remove upper part 2. Slide out the retainer pin of the rocker switch using the supplied tool.

3. Fit the new rocker switch with the small bar pointing towards the battery slot.

4. Position the retainer pin on the rocker switch using the tool and remove the tool.
