BLUETOOTH Bluetooth is a packet-based protocol with a master-slave architecture.

Originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables.

Profiles: HFP, PBAP, A2DP, AVRCP, PAN, HID, MAP, SPP.

Protocols: RFComm, L2CAP.

INTERNET OF THINGS GOAL :- To establish an Internet Connection for “Small Things” that we

carry with us or make use of in our homes, hospitals, factories etc.

A key requirement in this IOT vision is an easy-to-deploy and cost efficient low power wireless solution.

ONE SUCH USE CASE:• Devices are connected to the Gateway

which is implementing GATT-based services.

• Gateway interprets the service/profile and then exposes an “xxx” Internet API to connect to the Internet.

• This use-case can be applied in, for instance, connected sensors in a building.

INDOOR POSITIONING SYSTEM Positioning systems have played a major role in technology since GPS.

Outdoor Positioning – GPS. Indoor Positioning - ??.

IPS is required within big buildings where people spend enormous amount of time finding what they are looking for. In short where GPS isn’t useful.

Examples :- Shopping Centers, Airports, Museums, Parking garages. With IPS, organizations can deliver location triggered content, advertising

and much more.

AVAILABLE INDOOR POSITIONING TECHNOLOGIES Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Wi-Fi. Magnetic Field Detection. Near Field Communication (NFC). Gyroscope and Accelerometer.

WHAT’S NEXT?? BLE beacons based on Bluetooth version 4.x have a low range. Position accuracy is limited to a few meters.

So, the data from all of the aforementioned IPS technologies has to be incorporated for increased precision.

Bluetooth version 5 :- Quadruple the range, Double the speed and provide an eight-fold increase on

data broadcasting capacity of LE Bluetooth connections. Add functionalities for connectionless services like location-relevant information

and navigation.
