Simple pastThe simple past expresses an action in the past taking place once, never, several times. It can also be used for actions taking place one after another or in the middle of another action.

affirmative FormWhen we use simple past it is easier tan when we use simple present. All pronouns use the same form of the verb in past. They never change: Ilikedcartoons.YougotA jobHeneededSome money.ShehadTwo cars.IthappennedToo fast.YouwroteA letter.WewalkedAlong the park.TheydidTheir homework.

Negative formWhen you need to express a negative sentence referring to the past, you just need to add the auxiliary DID before the verb in its bare (original) form:Ididntlikecartoons.YoudidntGetA jobHedidntNeededSome money.ShedidntHaveTwo cars.ItdidntHappenToo fast.YoudidntWriteA letter.WedidntWalkAlong the park.TheydidntDoTheir homework.

Interrogative FormMaking questions in simple past is similar to negative statements.You start with the auxiliary DID followed by the verb in its bare form:DidIknowyou?Didyouwork?Didhewriteanything?Didshegoanywhere?Diditwork?Didyouunderstand?Didweneedanything?Didtheylikeanybody?

REMEMBER ! ! ! It is very important to know the difference between REGULAR and IRREGULAR VERBS.Regular verbs take d, -ed or ied in their past form.Irregular verbs change their form.
