This flip book covers 6 simple machines and also compound machines. Simply cut the pages, arrange in order, and staple at the top. Pieces are included to cut and glue inside, or have your students write their own. Enjoy!

Use the following cards to glue into the flip book if desired, or have students write their own.

Form: A flat surface that is higher at one end than the other

Function: It is easier to move an object up and down. Less force is required.

Examples:

Form: Two inclined planes stuck together; Wider at one end, thinner on the other

Function: Separates things by cutting or splitting.

Examples:

Form: An inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder

Function: It holds materials together.

Examples:

Form: A wheel that had a rod (axle) through it

Function: It moves objects over a distance with very little force needed.

Form: A stiff bar or rod that moves on a fulcrum (fixed point)

Function: It is easier to push or pull an item, or lift a load, with a lever.

Examples:

Form: A grooved wheel with a rope wrapped around it

Function: Makes it easier to raise or lower heavy items with little force

Examples:

Form: 2 or more simple machines working together

Function: The simple machines work together to make tasks easier.
