Maths This term, the children will be working with

numbers to 100 (including counting

forwards and backwards from any given

number). They will identify the value of

numbers using tens and ones and will

develop their knowledge of the four main

operations, applying this to problem solving

situations. They will learn to recognise the

different values of coins and notes and will

use this in context when dealing with money

in practical scenarios. In shape, space and

measure, the children will explore weight

and volume in practical contexts.

English

Over the course of this term, the children will read a number of books based on their topic theme and will continue to explore longer stories. They will offer personal responses to their reading and give reasons for these. They will also develop their skills in predicting and summarising. In written work, the children will study traditional tales, including the story structure and characters. They will continue to develop their grammatical knowledge and will use an increasing range of vocabulary to describe elements of their written sentences (including, for example, adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs). Basic skills and handwriting will continue to be a main feature of English.

PSHE

Children will spend time learning about each

other’s difference and how we can respect

these and will learn about their own health

and well-being, focusing on taking care of

their teeth.

History & Geography

In History, children will consider how famous people (including those local to us) have made improvements to our lives. They will learn about the Royal Family and begin to consider how the line of succession works. In Geography, children will explore their locality and identify their likes/dislikes, as well as developing their knowledge of where towns/cities are located within the UK.

Science Children will learn about the differences between living and non-living things. They will name the features of a range of animals’ bodies and will explain how these animals are suited to their environments. Using an increasing range of scientific vocabulary, children will identify and group animals and classify them based on what they eat.

Computing

In Computing, children will develop their skills in multimedia and will learn to combine text and images, record sound and play it back. They will create a voice over for an existing story/video and will develop their photography and printing skills.

RE will focus on stories form the Bible and will provide children will the opportunity to share their own responses to these and ask questions as a result of their reading. They will also learn about festivals from other religions.

Music

Using a range of instruments, children will compose and perform their own pieces of music. They will explore how they can make different sounds using the same instruments and repeat simple, rhythmic patterns. They will continue to develop their skills in appraising, offering their own responses to pieces of music and developing their reasons for these.

ART & DT In Art, children will begin to critically evaluate the work of famous artists, explaining what they like/dislike about their work. They will continue to experiment with texture in their own work and use IT to present alternative versions.

In DT, children will learn about food safety and hygiene before preparing their own healthy food products and considering how to decorate/present these so that they are pleasing to the eye.

PE

Children will focus on developing accuracy in a range of gymnastic skills including rolling, balancing and travelling with control. They will also have weekly sessions with a specialist sports instructor.
