CONTROLO P T I M I Z A T I O NIN OUR DAYS THE CONTROL OF VARIABLES OF A PROJECT IS THE MOST DEVELOPED WAY TO DESIGN. IT DERIVES DIRECTLY FROM THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD WHICH CONSIDERS A PROBLEM AT A TIME. IT ISOLATES A VARIABLE FROM THE OTHERS, DOING A CHECK LIST OF PROBLEMS AND RELATED SOLUTIONS. THERE ARE LOTS OF POSSIBLE PUR-POSES FOR CONTROLLING OF A PROJECT, FOR EXAMPLE THE COST OF REALIZATION OR THE SUS-TAINABILITY OF A BUILDING. MOREOVER THERE ARE SEVERAL KIND OF VARIABLES, THE MAIN ARE: THE THERMIC INSULATION, THE LIGHTING AND THE ACOUSTIC. WE CAN ALSO TAKE THE CONTROL OF A PROJECT AFTER ITS COMPLETION, FOR EXAMPLE OPTIMIZING THE ENERGETIC FEATURES OF AN OLD B U I L D I N G .

FREEDOMC H A O S T H E O R YTHE CHAOS THEORY IS USED IN ARCHITECTURE WHEN WE DECIDE TO TREAT THE CREATIVE PRO-CESS OF DESIGNING A FORM LIKE A NON-LINEAR SYSTEM. IN THIS KIND OF SYSTEM WE DON’T ANAL-IZE ONE VARIABLE AT A TIME, BUT EVERYONES AT THE SAME TIME CONSIDERING ALSO THEIR INTER-ACTION. THE MAIN POINTS OF THIS THEORY ARE: THE SENSIBILITY OF THE INITIAL CONDITIONS ( FROM WHICH A LITTLE CHANGE CAN HAVE BIG CONSE-QUENCES IN THEIR DEVELOPMENT, “BATTERFLY EFFECT” ), THE UNFORESEEABILITY OF THESE SYSTEMS IN TIME AND THEIR APPARENTLY RANDOM DEVELOPMENT. AN ALTERNATIVE WAY TO DESIGN IS TO DECIDE A DEFINIED FIELD OF DEVELOPMENT FOR PROJECT’S VARIABLES, LEAVING THEM FREE TO DEVELOP IN THIS.

| the choice of the vari-ables that determine the form in plan of the build-ing are being directed towards a geometric analysis of the urban context around the proj-ect area. the main cutting is setted on one of the corners of the lot and opens to the only part of the sky free from the encumbrance of other b u i l d i n g s .
| the central setbacks are located according to a geometric analysis of the batch that is set on a modular grid 6 x 3.

COMPLEXITYCOMPLEX SYSTEMS THEORY
IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF MY “DESIGNING CONSCIOUSNESS” I LEARNED WHAT IS TRULY IMPORTANT. WHEN STARTING A PROJECT, WE MUSTN'T FOCUS OUR ATTENTION ON CONTROL-LING THE PROJECT’S VARIABLES OR LEAVING THEM FREE TO DEVELOP THEMSELVES. CERTAINLY, WHEN WE TRY TO CONTROL THE VARIABLES WE CONSIDER THEM ONE AT A TIME SIMPLYFING IN WRONG WAY THE COMPLEX TOPIC OF DESIGNING. ONE MUST THINK THAT A DESIGN IS A COMPLEX SYSTEM OF INTERACTIONS BETWEEN VARIABLES THAT CAN HAVE AN EFFECT DURING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PROJECT. IN THE RESEARCH OF PROJECT’S SOLUTIONS WE HAVE TO TO FIND A COMPROMISE BETWEEN THE CONTROL AND THE FREEDOM.

BE CAREFUL!
Buildings in this hypoteti-cal view are just a repre-sentatio of the actual building space on their respective areas, they don’t represent their real form. It will be a task of the designers define the specific architectural details.
