Simon Scarrow Comes to Wellington!
In the Spring term, the world-famous author, Simon Scarrow
cam e to speak to Year 7 and primary school children about his
books.
Scarrow, a former teacher, writes books for adults and children
based upon the Romans and mythology.
As well as speaking to us about his books, he
included an amazing quiz where pupils were tested on their
Roman knowledge. The teams, pictured below, were amazing
and it was very close ; however, in the end the green team won
and had their impressive score entered into the national
competition. Hopefully, a trip to Bath may be on the cards!
Simon Scarrow kindly agreed to sign any books we wished to purchase and he was
delighted by all of the Spartacus letters we had produced for him.
We can’t wait to find out which author will be
next to visit Wellington! Inspired by 7.4b and 7.5a
The traditional act of
painting eggs is called
Pysanka.
The Egyptians were the
first people to exchange eggs.
The Americans celebrate
Easter with an Easter egg hunt
on the White House lawn.
In medieval times, a ceremony
of egg-throwing was held at
church to celebrate.
Easter is celebrated globally.
Christians believe that Easter
Sunday is the holiest day in
the year. Some people who are
not Christians celebrate it as
the beginning of Spring.

Do you enjoy teaching?
Yes, I enjoy teaching people how to use the fitness
suite. This is because it is very important for people to
exercise efficiently and safely.
How long have you been teaching students?
I have been teaching students for four years now.
Club plans for this year?
I like running the fitness suite and teaching but I would
run other clubs. I rotate the clubs I run through the year.
To all those people who play basketball, after Christmas
I may be running that.
Miss McCarthy
How do you teach netball?
I give pupils a task and then ask them to com-
plete it in a certain time period. Then I ask each
group to show me their findings and we briefly
discuss the best possible ways to do the certain
task.
How do you perform in matches?
I have teams in years 7,8,9,10 and 11 who all try
very hard and put in maximum effort in all
games.
I am very proud of them.
What would you say to pupils if they were to join?
I would say to give it a go as you might enjoy it
as it is a great way to make new friends.
I would like to say goodbye
to all my students and that I
hope everyone has a good
time at Wellington. Goodbye
everyone, I will miss you all
so much! Also I would like
to welcome our newest P.E
teacher Miss Lawson! I
hope her and her P.E. Group
get on very well!
