SIMON SAYS GIVE 2019 ANNUAL REPORT2

2019 was a very successful year for Simon Says Give as an organization. All of our chapters did amazing work this past year and are working very hard on making this year just as magical.

I am so proud of all the accomplishments and partnerships we have created this past year. I want to thank every single person who is reading this because you have helped us accomplish these tasks. We would not be able to help people if it were not for the amazing volunteers, partners, and donors that we have. Thank you.

HIGH FIVE FOR SUPPLIES BACKPACK PACKING EVENTIn 2019, we hosted our 7th Annual High Five for Supplies event. We were fortunate enough to partner again with Mall of America as our event sponsor. MoneyGram Foundation was our title sponsor for the 2nd year in a row. We also had our year-over-year sponsors; Simon Says Lead, Express Employment Professionals, Versique, Celarity, and Macy’s with large financial contributions to the event.

One of the most exciting sponsorships we had in 2019 was with Random Tuesday, Inc. They provide virtual running clubs an opportunity to get involved in an Impact Project and High Five for Supplies was their chosen project. During a two-week period of time, we had packages from all over the World delivered to Eagan, MN. The clubs provided close to $16,000 worth of supplies and filled over 8,000 backpacks with the following items: #2 Pencils, Colored Pencils, Markers, Highlighters, and Glue Sticks. It was an amazing partnership!

KEY VOLUNTEERSWe would like to thank our Key Volunteers that gave of their time for a full day and/or several days over the summer.

As you can see by the photos and stories, youth leadership is still very much alive as one of our pillars. All three chapters have amazing youth involved in supporting our efforts. Many of our youth have either gone off to college or are headed there in the near future.

We created the Kid Advisory Boards to ensure that we always had youth voices at the table helping to guide the organization.

Our Minnesota Chapter is excited to announce that Michele Smith-Cox will be taking on a role as the adult leader for the Kid Advisory Board – Minnesota. In the summer and fall of 2020, Michele will be working to recruit some new talent to join our team. If you know of youth in the Twin Cities that would like to get involved, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Featured in the above photo is Ainsley Cox, Claire Kirchner and Finn Chalmers. All three serve on the Kid Advisory Board in Minnesota and all three worked during the summer.

Ainsley led Birthday Celebrations, Claire worked on our SalesForce automation, and Finn led High Five for Supplies. We honored these youth with Unstoppable Awards at our Legacy Celebration in November.

THANK YOU MADDIEMaddie stepped into the Kid President Role in Minnesota over three years ago. She has given her time and talent and has made a large impact on our organization and the youth she has worked with. Maddie will be going off to Boston College in the fall and we are very excited to watch what she does in this new chapter of her life.

Maddie, we thank you for your dedication to Simon Says Give! We have some large shoes to fill as we search for a New Kid President for MN.

2019 HIGHLIGHTSOur Birthday Celebrations Team continues to be busy supporting birthdays throughout the year. They provided birthday Joy to over 400 kids in 2019 with the help of many individual and corporate donors. Ainsley Cox, one of our Kid Advisory Board members worked during the summer and was actively involved with our birthday recipient parents and hand-deliver birthdays to many children. Ainsley will be working with us again this summer before she goes off to college in the fall!

Our Minnesota Board Team continues to support both Minnesota as a chapter and the organization as a whole. Many of our active youth leaders are starting to prepare to go off to college; therefore, the Adult Board is working hard on what the next phase of Simon Says Give looks like. We thank the Board, as well as the many committee members, that are working hard to carry on Mandi’s mission of Kids Celebrating Kids®.

Our Volunteer Teams put in over 6700 hours this year. Each year we are overwhelmed with the participation of our volunteers. Many of them come back year over year to specific events or find ways to get involved in different aspects of the organization.

2019 HIGHLIGHTSBACKPACKS507 backpacks filled with binders and supplies ($70 retail value) delivered directly to rising middle schoolers and middle schools in Worcester. 33% more than 2018.

BIRTHDAYS19 hosted parties and 40 birthdays in a box. TRIPLE the number of kids celebrated in 2018. Each customized party included an Annie’s Kindness Blanket and a cake from The Queen’s Cups, which donated half those cakes and their tips to cover the other half.

FUNDRAISINGWe owe so much to the generosity of more than 170 individual donors and partners including Clark University, Webster Five, Main Street Bank, and the College of the Holy Cross Reunion Classes. Saint John’s High School donated their gym for our backpack assembly and a dress down day as a fundraiser.

2020 GOALSDeliver 600 backpacks and provide 60 birthdays to kids across the city.

A NOTE FROM SIMONAs I begin my final year as president, I can see how lucky I have been. Simon Says Give let me create my own identity for this chapter and truly adapt it for the kind of city Worcester is. I wanted to make sure our bags and birthdays were fully stocked and customized for every kid, even if that meant we didn’t grow as quickly. We personalize every cake and party and let students pick the color of their backpacks. We have handed every party to a kid and every backpack to a student or school to help inspire the future leaders of my community.

I am proud of how my chapter has grown and impacted the city and am honored to represent Simon Says Give and all the joy it brings. When I started the Worcester Chapter, I did not set any goals except to directly impact as many kids as I could. Halfway through my junior year in high school, I still can’t believe how far we’ve come: 1000 middle school backpacks filled with supplies and over 100 kids celebrated from across the city. And I have by no means been alone in getting here. 165 different kid volunteers have put in more than 1600 hours of service since we started, especially the kid board who help to lead this organization. And most importantly my parents who have given so much time and effort to help me achieve it all. I can’t wait to see what my senior year brings!

SIMON SAYS GIVE 2019 ANNUAL REPORT 11

A NOTE FROM NOLANThis year we had an amazing year! We continued to make a great impact in our community, delivering 325 birthdays to kids in need. Through all our programs we impacted over 2,600 kids in our area. We had a lot of help from the community, with around 700 volunteer hours. Additionally, we received many donations from our wonderful donors throughout the year, including at our 4th annual Cops v. Kids event during the summer. We’re looking forward to what we can do to help our community and know we will need everyone’s help.

Cassidy Jennings took over last year as VP and has been doing amazing work helping run the kid advisory board, and applying for new grants, broadening our opportunities of receiving donations, and looking for more volunteers to join our board. We are constantly on the move delivering birthday bags and hope to be able to keep helping kids in need during these difficult times.

As always, we want to thank those who’ve donated their time, talent, and treasure. Our goal remains the same; to have as big an impact in our community and help as many kids as possible. We are all about kids celebrating kids.

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goals. Here’s to the future!

2019 HIGHLIGHTSAs Simon Says Give South Dakota has grown, so have these amazing kid leaders. Not just in stature, but in the depth of their maturity, leadership skills, and experience. Simon Says Give kids learn how to speak publicly and with adults in a professional setting, run a board meeting, plan and execute big ideas, run events, fundraise, manage budgets, and so much more.

The opportunity for the kid board members to develop critical leadership skills while also providing a valuable service to the children of their community is phenomenal. At a time where the future of our country, our world is in flux, it is more important than ever we teach our children the values and skills needed for the future.

More and more families will continue to need our services; more and more children will need to be celebrated on their birthday and in those moments that matter. Simon Says Give’s mission – Kids Celebrating Kids - means more today and every day in the lives of the children we serve. Nolan and the South Dakota team are proud to help realize Mandi’s vision.
