WelDiNg TeChNiques– a one-year Ontario College Certificate program. Two semesters on campus and a mandatory work placement provides the theoretical and practical training to perform most basic welding techniques. Students will be exposed to topics including health and safety, blueprint reading and sketching, applied math, communication, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, introduction to computers, and all position pipe welding. At the completion of the program, students will be eligible to test for welding tickets based on their level of expertise. Career opportunities include: Welder, Welder Fitter Trainee, Apprentice Welder, Apprentice Boilermaker, Apprentice Construction Millwright, Apprentice Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Apprentice Ironworker, Apprentice Pipefitter and Apprentice Fitter. We offer fall and winter intakes.

meChaNiCal TeChNiCiaN - appreNTiCe– a two-year Ontario College Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship program. Industrial millwrights install, maintain and repair machinery and tools used in industry. Whether it is mechanical or automated equipment, a millwright will be required to examine, diagnose, and perform the work needed to keep a line up and running. You will work with hand and power tools, as well as welding equipment and you may be required to operate hoisting and lifting devices to perform your work. Gain hands-on experience through paid co-op opportunities. Students are registered as Industrial Millwright Mechanics apprentices during their placement. Upon successful completion, students receive a Mechanical Technician Diploma and Levels I, II and III of the Industrial Millwright Mechanic Apprenticeship program. Admission is offered every January. This program is made possible with a grant by the Province of Ontario.

HeALTH sCIeNCes ANd HUMAN seRvICes

DevelopmeNTal serviCes Worker (aCCeleraTeD)– New accelerated multiple intake delivery! Complete this two-year Ontario College Diploma program in only one year! The career of the Developmental Services Worker (DSW) involves working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. Courses include teaching strategies, health promotion, counselling, pharmacology, training in accommodation, advocacy, education, employment and leisure support, as well as field practicum in agency and educational settings. Graduates work within community-based agencies and boards of education. The DSW is offered full-time on a continuous intake basis throughout the year.

early ChilDhooD eDuCaTioN (aCCeleraTeD)– New accelerated multiple intake delivery! Complete this two-year Ontario College Diploma program in only one year! This program prepares students for their future role as early childhood educators. The program combines academic courses and field placements in a variety of early years settings. Students learn to observe children from birth to 12 years, assess levels of skill development and gain experience in designing and implementing stimulating programs for children. Graduates are employed in inclusive early care education settings, elementary school environments, early years centres and before and after school programs. The ECE program is offered full-time on a continuous basis throughout the year.

persoNal supporT Worker– this one-year Ontario College Certificate program is completed in 30-weeks and is offered in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Tillsonburg. As a personal support worker, you will observe and respond to the needs of clients in long-term care facilities, retirement homes, in home-care and hospital settings. You will assist people with the tasks of daily living, help make them comfortable and keep them safe. This program is also available on a part-time basis in London and may be in other locations, depending on demand. Admission is offered every January.

soCial serviCe Worker – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program (offered in London and Simcoe). If you’d like to work with individuals, groups or families and adults who are facing personal challenges, this program could be for you. The program will give you a sound knowledge of human behaviour, individual and social problems and the necessary helping techniques to prepare you for basic social work practice in social agencies and social welfare programs. Graduates are eligible for admission into the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. This program is offered full-time, with some part-time seats available.

healTh Care oFFiCe assisTaNT – a 16-week Ontario College Certificate program designed to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to function as a clerk/assistant/receptionist in a variety of health care facilities including hospital units, doctor’s offices and clinics. This program is offered during the day. Admission is offered in the winter term.

ACAdeMIC UPGRAdING

aCaDemiC aND Career eNTraNCe (aCe) program– is accepted as equivalent to a grade 12 diploma by Colleges and Apprenticeship for the purposes of admission. This program is available during the day and evening, and is a tuition-free program. The student must demonstrate mastery in the communication and core math courses in addition to some course electives. Students not requiring this credential may choose to take only those courses required for admission to their chosen post secondary program.

geNeral eDuCaTioN DevelopmeNT (geD) preparaTioN – for an adult learner, quite often the hardest aspect of returning to school is taking the first step. At Fanshawe College we recognize and celebrate the initiative it takes to make this first step. Our program offers free individualized training that prepares people for the GED test, college or employment. We welcome the opportunity to assist you in working towards your goals. This is a continuous intake program; therefore you may start anytime, all year round. Classes are available both day and evening for your convenience.

liTeraCy aND BasiC skills (lBs) program – offers English and mathematics upgrading, basic computer skills, teamwork, communications and other skills needed for further education and in the workplace. LBS helps people acquire the essential skills to find, keep and enhance employment opportunities through instruction in job search, resume writing, interview techniques and employer expectations. The academic component is located at the campus and co-ordinating employment related activities may be located at the Employment Centre in Simcoe. The LBS program is free to qualified adults aged 19 and older. This program is available during the day and evening. Once a learner has completed LBS, very often they either move on to ACE or GED preparation in order to earn a high school equivalency certificate.

Continuing education

aZ TraCTor Trailer TraiNiNg – certified driver training program consisting of: dangerous goods, log book, drug and alcohol awareness, smart driver, computer based training, on-site tours of industry leading carriers who employ our graduates, border crossing, skid school, resume preparation, life time job placement and the provincial road test. TrainingisofferedbyKRTSTransportationSpecialistsInc.inpartnershipwithFanshawe College.

BookkeepiNg – a 17-week Ontario College Certificate program designed to assist Individuals In acquiring and upgrading their business and accounting skills as a bookkeeper. This program is offered during the day. Admission is offered in the spring term.

CompuTeriZeD oFFiCe esseNTials – a 13-week Ontario College Certificate program designed to teach you the most current computer applications found in most offices today (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Simply Accounting, and Desktop Publishing). Completion of all of the courses prepares you to apply for positions such as receptionist, clerk, secretary or support staff personnel. This program is offered during the day. Admission is offered in the fall and winter term.

DispaTCh TraiNiNg – program consists of the daily dispatch program, trip planning, Canadian TruckingHumanResourcesCouncilDispatchModuleTraining1and2,carriertours, hazardous materials, border crossing, interpersonal and motivational skills, speed management and hours of service. In addition to the above subjects, the dispatch training also includes a two day in-truck observation training component. TrainingisofferedbyKRTSTransportationSpecialistsInc.inpartnershipwithFanshawe College.

FooD serviCe Worker– a 12-week Ontario College Certificate program designed to teach you to perform effectively in institutional food preparation settings in commercial and/or long-term care facilities. During the academic portion of the program emphasis is given to foodpreparation,service,nutritionandsanitarypracticesintheworkplace.An80hour work placement must be completed to successfully complete the certificate. This program meets the requirements set by the Ministry of Long Term Care for Food Service Workers. This program is offered during the day. Admission is offered in the fall term.

Fanshawe College offers part-time certificate programs and professional designations. There is a wide range of courses that can be completed through classroom learning and/or online. The Continuing Education Division also conducts customized business and industrial training services, conferences and seminars.
