The 'Silver Jubilee' celebrations of the college

were held in a grand manner on the 29th of

September 2010. The Acharyas of the Kanchi mutt,

His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and

His Holiness Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal

graced the occasion with their presence. The

Chairman of the Governing council Dr A.C.Muthiah

welcomed the guests. The foundation stone of the

'His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Platinum

Complex' was laid on this occasion. Felicitations

were made to former Secretary Prof.A.Krishnan,

former principal Prof. S.Muthukaruppan and other

faculty and staff members who have served the

college for long. HH Sri Jayendra Saraswathi

Swamigal gave the anugraha bhashanam. Fusion

music was rendered by the asthana vidwans of

Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Rajhesh Vaidhya and Sri

N.Mohana Ram group.

Events / News

A cultural function was organized by the Students Association of the college as part of the silver jubilee celebrations. The function was held at Rajah Annamalai Mandram on the 16th of August. Mr. Sriram Parthasarathy inaugurated the function.

A 'Silver Jubilee Alumni Meet' was held at Hotel Green Park on 31st July 2010. Dr.Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University Chennai, was the chief guest. Several distinguished alumni participated in the meet which was presided over by the Chairman of the Governing Council Dr. A. C.Muthiah.

The passing out parade of the ninth batch (2006-2010) of Marine Engineering Graduates was held on 18th September 2010 in the college campus. Shri G.K.Vasan, Honorable Union Minister of Shipping, Govt. of India was the chief guest. Dr A.C.Muthiah, Chairman-Governing Council graced the occasion along with other dignitaries.

Entrepreneurship awareness camp was held in the college on 22nd September 2010. Dr.K.Balu, Dean-Educational Development presided over the function. The program was sponsored by National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science & Technology.

Communication” and “Biotechnology” have been

started by the college from the year 2010-2011 with

the approval of AICTE.

Engineers Day function was celebrated in the

campus on 15th September 2010. Prof. P.S.

Manisundaram Retd. Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan

University was the Chief Guest and delivered a

lecture on “Impending Paradigm Shift in Engineering

Sciences – Future Challenges”.

The “Cognizant Open Source Lab” attached to the

department of Computer Science and Engineering

was inaugurated by Mr.Balakrishnan Shanmugam,

Global Head of the Cognizant Academy on the 13th

July 2010. The lab is equipped with high-end

desktops funded by Cognizant Ltd and would give a

'practical-oriented' training on specialised topics to

the students.

World Service Day was celebrated in the college on

the 8th of October 2010. Many service projects like

blood donation, tree plantation, road safety

awareness, cancer awareness etc were held on this

day. A diabetic detection camp was held for the

benefit of faculty. A talk on 'Teachers welfare” was

delivered by Dr.K.Balu, Dean-Educational

Development. Dr.Girish, Chief Neuro-surgeon at the

government hospital delivered a talk on 'Road

Safety'.

NSS Day was celebrated on 24th September, 2010 at Sriperumbudur. An “Anti-Tobacco Awareness Rally” was organized. The rally started at 11 am from Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, and ended at Rajiv Gandhi Nat ional Youth Inst i tute by 12:30 p.m. Mrs.A.R.Reihana, play back singer and composer, waved the f lag and in it iated the ra l ly. Dr.R.Narayaswamy, Joint Director-HEB cum State Tobacco Control officer, Directorate of Public Health & Preventive medicine, gave a special address and Dr.R.Ramachandran, Principal, SVCE, presided over the programme.

Dr.P.Ramasamy, Former Vice-chancellor of Alagappa University and Professor and Head, Department of Biotechnology, University of Madras delivered the inaugural address.

The department of Automobile Engineering organized a two day workshop on 'Under the roof of cylinder head” on the 23rd and 24th of September 2010. Dr.V.Ganesan, Professor, IIT-Madras inaugurated the function and delivered the keynote address. Dr.V.Balasubramanian, Executive Director, Simpson & Co, Dr.Anand Gurupatham, Deputy Manager in Nissan R&D division, Dr.A.Ramesh and Dr.G.Nagarajan, Professors in Mechanical Engineering department of IIT-Madras, Dr.M.Senthilkumar, Assistant Professor in Automobile Engineering department of MIT-Anna University were the other resource persons. The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering conducted a one day workshop on “Renewable Sources of Energy” on 24th August 2010. Mr. M. Coumarane, Asst. Executive Engineer – Electrical, NLC Ltd., and Mr. V. Sankara Narayanan, Retd. Chief Engineer, TNEB were the resource persons.

The department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a one day workshop on “Nanomaterials” on 21st August 2010.

The department of Information Technology organized a three day workshop on “Database-2” (DB2-2010) from the 6th to 8th of August 2010. The resource persons were from IBM. Mr.Ajay, Technical Consultant, IBM-Pune gave the keynote address. About 60 students participated. The students obtained a hands-on experience on DB2 UDB products, Features in DB2 tools, Security issues, Accessing and manipulating DB2 UDB data and objects etc. 34 students and 5 faculty members received the International Certification on IBM Db2.

Engineering together organized a multi-disciplinary

workshop on “Real Time Embedded System Design”

from the 16th to 19th of July 2010. The program

covered both the theoretical and practical aspects

and several students were benefited.

The department of Mechanical Engineering in

association with M/s. Ashok Leyland conducted a

special course on “Noise, Vibration and Harshness”

for Mechanical, Automobile and Marine Engineering

students from 5th June 2010 to 13th June 2010.

A training programme on “Empowering &

Enhancing the Employability of SC/ST Students in the

IT Field” under TADHCO was conducted in the college

by the faculty members, from 21st May 2010 to 15th

June 2010.

The department of Computer Applications together

with Cognizant Technology Solutions Ltd (CTS)

organized a conference on “Machine Learning and

Computing (MLC-2010) on the 12th of May 2010.

Mr.Jayendra Ramesan, Director, Enterprise Analytics

Practice, CTS Ltd, Chennai inaugurated the

conference and delivered the keynote address which

was well attended.

Mr.R.Vivek, Mr.D.Swaminathan and

Mr.V.Sathyanarayana of the Electronics and

Communication Engineering department secured

the INAE Innovative Project Award for UG students

for the year 2010 for their project titled “Design,

Development and Validation of S-Band RF Power

Amplifier”. It was one among the top seven projects

and fetched them a cash award of Rs.30,000/- and a

certificate.

presented his research paper titled "Automated

water Quality monitoring system using GSM service"

in the International conference on Fisheries and

Aquatic sciences 2010 held at Singapore from 25th

to 27th August 2010, conducted by WASET (World

Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology).

A.Kapil of final year EC 'A' was the co-author. The

students were guided by Prof.E.G.Govindan, Vice-

Principal and Head, Department of Electronics and

Communication Engineering.

Adithya M and Balaji G of final year EC 'A'

won the best paper award for their paper titled

"Intelligent Indoor navigation aid for people with

severe visual impairments" in the International

conference on Information, Communication

technology and VLSI design” held at PSG college of

Technology ,Coimbatore on the 6th and 7th of

August 2010. They also presented a paper titled

"Interpretation and navigation automated system

for visually challenged persons" in the “International

conference on Embedded systems” organized by

Coimbatore Institute of technology, Coimbatore

jointly with Oklahoma state university, USA, during

14th to 16th July 2010.

IIChE-SVCE Student's chapter was bestowed

with Pidilite Best Student's Chapter Award for 2010.

The award carried a certificate, trophy and a cash

prize of Rs.15000/-. We are receiving the BEST

Varun .D III year mechanical student won the

FIRST PLACE and BEST DESIGN award at the "Wright

Design" contest held at IIT Madras – 'Shaastra'

during 31st October 2010.

Sports

The basket ball team of the college won the trophy

in the Zone II Anna University tournament held at

Anna University on 16th September 2010. The

women's team was the overall champions in

athletics and the men's team was the runners-up in

football.

Table tennis players K.P.Anila Rao of III year Biotech,

Vedaraman of II year Chemical were the winners in

the Anna University Inter Zonal tournament held at

Abdul Hakeem Engineering college on 4th & 5th

the campus so far and have recruited 534 students th(as on 24 December 2010). i.e. 97% of the eligible
