The discussion started with the agenda item on wa- ter to extraterritorial resi- dents. This was addressed by Jinl Payne, Carrizozo maintenance foreman, and concerned extending '-Vater lines to the west end of town (referring to the end of 8th Street). At the meeting of April 13. this subject origina!.Jy was brought up when Payne sa'id that he was approached by a person who had bOught acre- age at the end of 8th Street and he inquired if water could be brought to that property. At .. the meeting on April 13. Payne said that the town might consider tap- ping into the industrial park line. Payne said at the April 25 meeting that in thinking it over if the town extended these lines right now with the current water situation all the town is doing is ask- ing for trouble. He said that the town does riot really have the water to extend to that area. Payne said that in his opinion. the only way to satisfY the people on that side of town was if you had another supply tank. He said that, as of now, if you opened it up for one you opened it up for all. Eileen Lovelace. a rnexnber of the audience. asked Payne if the area was in the city limits. Payne said that the area was not in the city limits but the water lines are there and continue past this property by half a mile, ThE} property is on the west end of 8th Street where the county road makes the , cUrve. Payne said. Hernandez asked if it was a nvo inch line that Payne was talking about. Payne said yes and it was the only' line out there now. Hernan- dez asked if this line was going to supply the new jail and Payne said no that there is a six inch line going into the Industrial Park. 'Payne said there were 14 or 16 cus- tomers on the two inch line now. Hernandez susgested that the town- not hook anybody else up and have no new outside the city liInit water taps. Payne was asked by Hernandez if the big well was running again. Payne told the trustees that the PUIDP is in and the pipe is ready for the control box. He said that it should be on line. Wednesday. April 26. Carrizozo Municipal Judge C. O. RODlinger asked Payne if there is a water shortage CODling up. Payne said "who knows" but that he has re- ceived letters from the State Engineer to prepare for Q .shortage and that as of' now this will be a drought year. However.
