It all began in 1978 when Noel Comer converted his father’s shearing shed into a workshop and began making and modifying farm equipment for the local farmers.

Originally known as Goornong Engineering, Noel quickly gained a reputation for building quality products. Before long, Noel was asked by a customer if he could build a silo. “I’ll have a go” was Noel’s reply. Word spread quickly that he built a good silo and at a reasonable price and, in turn, started getting more and more orders. This meant an extra tower was added to the shearing shed for building silos.

The business grew and the demand for silos increased, forcing Noel and Lyn (Noel’s wife) to build a new purpose-built factory at the current location just outside of Goornong in 1996. This shed was designed predominantly for fabricating silos and this was where GE Silos Pty Ltd was born and really started to thrive. Noel continually improved the products as there was always something that could be better. This resulted in Zincalume products being used to greatly increase the silo’s life. He also introduced the strongest blower pipe on the market.

Sadly, in May 2001, Noel passed away after a short battle with Cancer. Lyn and Jason (Lyn’s son) continued to grow and develop the business. This saw the expansion o f the factory in 1996 with a 16 metre high tower to allow construction of larger silos.

Noel’s passion for enjoying life, continually improving everything, being genuine and always looking to help others are the same morals GE silos runs with today.

Your silo is less susceptible to the elements like rust so it will last much longer. We are the only company in Australia to use 1.6mm x 1200mm Australian made Zincalume coils.

The ledge-free manhole results in no feed left sitting on the ledge of manhole. The new shape also creates an easier entry hole allowing for easy and safe cleaning of your silo.

Silos are pressure tested at the factory and are guaranteed to exceed the 5 minute half-life test set by GRDC. Average test results last 6 times the standard. This will optimize the effectiveness of your fumigation and protect your grain.

Ground operated lid opener allows you to easily open, close and seal the top lid from the safety of the ground.


Highest quality rubber seals and sealants are used to give you the best seal and longer life.

Ground level phosphine applicators are installed so you can fumigate the silo from the safety of the ground.

GrainGaurd pressure relief valves are used to allow the silo to safely breathe. These also allow easy visibility of a sealed silo for your onsite testing.

Large removable hopper for easy cleaning and storage to prolong hopper life.

Ladder access to top for inspections.

The new base outlet has easily removable sealing plates and no areas for insects to hide to allow for better insect control. A stronger lever handle is used to allow for easier opening and closing of the outlet.
