installation and use. The following information applies to all KENYON Electric Cooktops.

This cooktop, like all appliances, has the potential to create safety problems through careless and improper use. Please observe all of the following safety precautions.

Proper Installation.Besureyourapplianceisproperlyinstalledandgroundedbyaqualifiedtechnician.

Never use your appliance for warming or heating the room.

CAUTIONDo not leave children alone.Childrenshouldneverbeleftaloneorunattendedintheareawheretheapplianceisinuse.Theyshouldneverbeallowedtositorstandonanypartoftheappliance.Donotletchildrenplaywithcooktop.Donotstoreitemsofinteresttoachildincabinetsabovethecooktop,childrenclimbing on the cooktop to reach such items could be seriously injured.

Wear proper clothing/apparel.Loosefittingorhanginggarmentsshouldneverbewornwhileusingtheappliance.Fabricorotherflammablematerialsmaycontacthotsurfacesduringoperationandmayigniteandresultinpersonal injury.

User ServicingDonotrepairorreplaceanypartoftheappliance.Ifserviceeverbecomesnecessary,thisappliance should be serviced by AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY or call KENYON Customer Care at (860)664-4906.

Storage in or on ApplianceFlammablematerialsshouldnotbestoredabove,underornearsurfacecookingunits.

Keep flammable materials away from cooktop.

Do not store plastic material (such as plastic utensils) in storage areas beneath cooktop. Plastic items with low melting temperatures should not be stored under/over or near the cooktop.

Do not use water on grease fires.Smotherfireorflameorusedrychemicalorfoam-typeextinguisher.

Use only dry pot holders.Moistordamppotholdersonhotsurfacesmayresultinburnsfromsteam.Donotletpotholderstouchtheinductionelementsontheappliance.Donotuseatowelorotherbulkyclothinplaceofa pot holder.

Do not cook on broken cooktop.Ifcooktopshouldbreak,cleaningsolutionsandspilloversmaypenetratethebrokencooktopandcreateariskofelectricshock.ContactanauthorizedservicecenterorKENYONCustomerCareimmediately at (860) 664-4906.

Clean cooktop with caution.Donotcleanthecooktopwhileitisstillhot.Ifawetspongeorclothisusedtowipespillsonahotcookingsurface,becarefultoavoidsteamburns.Somecleanersproducenoxiousfumesifappliedtoahotsurface.Readthecleanerlabelfordetailspriortousing.

Use proper pan size.Thisapplianceisequippedwithoneormoresurfaceunitsofdifferentsize.Selectcookwarehavingflatbottomslargeenoughtoactivatetheinductionunit.Properrelationshipofcookwaretoburnersizewillalsoimproveefficiency.

Never Leave Surface Units Unattended at High Heat Settings.Boilover may cause smoking and greasy spillovers may ignite.

Utensil Handles Should be Turned Inward and Not Extend Over Adjacent Surface Units.Toreducetheriskofburns,ignitionofflammablematerials,andspillageduetounintentionalcontactwiththeutensil,thehandleofautensilshouldbepositionedsothatitisturnedinward,anddoesnotextendoveradjacentsurfaceunits.

Never heat an empty pan.It may damage the cooktop or cookware and overheat the unit.

Do not use aluminum foil on the surface of the cooktop.

Cookware should always be dry.Donotheatcookwarewithexcesswaterdropletsontheoutsideofthepan.Thedropletsmaybegin to boil and splatter.

DO NOT TOUCH SURFACE UNITS OR AREAS NEAR UNITS.Surfaceunitsmaybehoteventhoughtheyaredarkincolor.Areasnearsurfacemaybecomehotenoughtocauseburns.Duringandafteruse,donottouch,orletclothingorotherflammablematerialscontactsurfaceunitsorareasnearunitsuntiltheyhavehadsufficienttimetocool.Amongtheseareasaretheinductionelementsandsurroundingglasssurface.

STEP # 1

Unpacking the Cooktop

Carefullyunpackthecooktopfromitsshippingcontainer.Ifpossible,retaintheoriginalshippingcartonandprotectivepackagingintheeventtheuniteverhastobereturnedforservice.

Verifyandidentifythepackagecontents.Thefollowingitemsshouldbeincludedinthecarton.Ifanycomponentsaremissingordamaged,callKENYONimmediately.

Check the Electrical Supply RequirementsThis product must be installed in accordance with national, state and local electric codes. The followingtableprovidesthecorrectvoltage,amperageandfrequencythatmustbesuppliedtothecooktop.

Please read this section prior to making cutout for cooktop.Itisimportanttoplanaheadforinstallationofthecooktop,keepingthefollowingdimensionsinmind(pleaserefertoFigureA).

Ensureyouhavethecorrectmodelforyourcountertop.Landscapemodelsaredesignedforuseinstandard24”depthcountertops.Portraitmodelsaredesignedforuseinislandsandapplicationswithnon-standarddepthcountertops.Generally251/2”minimumcountertopdepthis needed to install portrait models.

Warning: To eliminate the risk of burns by reaching over heated surface units, cabinet storage space located above surface units should be avoided. If cabinent storage is to be provided, the risk can be reduced by installing a range hood that projects horizontally a minimum of 5” beyond the bottom of the cabinets.

Beforemakingthecountertopcutout,checkforclearance.Checktoseeifthecooktopwillclearthefrontandsidewallsofthebasecabinet.Itisalsoimportanttoprovideenoughventilation.

Adequateventilationofthespacebelowthecountertop must be provided to ensure properoperationofthecooktop.Heattransferredfromthecooktopbottompanduring operation will overheat an improperly ventilated area.

NOTE:When making countertop cutout, radiusthecornerofthecutout(1/4”radiusistypical).Thiswillpreventcrackingofthecountertop.Followthecountertopmanufacturer’sinstructionsregardingtheminimumcornerradiusandreinforcementofcorners.

STEP #4

Installing the Cooktop

There are two mounting brackets supplied with the glass ceramic cooktop. These brackets are designedtoholdthecooktopfirmlyinplace.Thecooktopdoesnothaveametalframeandshouldbebeddedtothecountertopusingasoftbeddingcompoundthatwillpreventdamageiflaterremovalforserviceisnecessary.Werecommendaverysmallbeadofsiliconesealant.Ifmounting in granite countertop use only 100% silicone sealant.

AttachthetwomountingbracketssuppliedwiththeKENYONcooktop(asshown)totheinsideverticalsurfaceofthecutout.Thebracketsaretobemountedonopposingsides.Centerthebracketintheopening,flushwiththecountertopandsecurewithlongself-tappingscrewsthatareprovided.Positionthecooktopinthecutoutopeningandpressfirmlyonallsidestosealtheframeintothebeddingcompound.Securethecooktoptothebracketsfromunderneathwiththesmallsheetmetalscrewsthataresupplied.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS.

Electrical Connection

Beforeproceedingfurther,verifythatthepowersupplyisdisconnected.Verifythattheappropriate electrical supply requirements have beenmet.Pleaserefertothetableonpage5forappropriateelectricalrequirements.Thecooktop is supplied with a 36-inch long conduitforaconnectiontoanaccessiblejuntionbox.The240Vconduitconsistsofthree insulated wires. There are two insulated hot lead conductors (red and black) and one insulated ground conductor (green).

Attachconductorwirestoresidencewiringinaccordance with national, state and local electric codes.

Warning - GroundingThe entire appliance must be grounded at all times when the electrical power supply is on. Do not ground the appliance with the neutral house supply wire (white). A separate ground must be used.

Final Preparations Prior to Use

Removetheplasticfilmfromthecooktop.Cleanthecooktopbeforeyouuseitforthefirsttime.Athorough cleaning with a recommended cooktop cleaner (Cerama Bryte Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner) will provide a clean, shiny coating on thecooktopsurface.

Thenextsectionofthemanualcoverscooktopuse,maintenanceandserviceinformation.

Please keep these instructions with the KENYON cooktop for future reference.

OPERATIONREAD SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING YOUR APPLIANCE

ThecookingsurfaceareasofyourSilKEN®inductioncooktopareidentifiedbyinsetinductionzonespatternsinthecooktop.Theapplianceiseasytomaintainandeasytoclean.Keepingthecooktopintopperformancecanbeachievedbyfollowingthesimpleguidelinesforuseandcleaning below:

INDUCTION COOKINGIninductioncooking,whenacastironormagneticpanisplacedabovetheinsetinductionzonethegeneratorundertheglassproducesamagneticfieldwhichinstantlygeneratesheatinthecooking vessel. Induction cooking will not work with aluminum, copper or glass pots.

Theceramicglasssurfaceitselfdoesnotgenerateheat.Whentheinductiongeneratorisactivated, the steel cooking vessel immediately begins to heat up.

COOKWAREInductiononlyworkswithcookwaremadeofferrousmetals-metalstowhichmagnetswillsticksuch as cast iron and magnetic stainless steel, and will not work with aluminum or other metals. Totestyourcookwareforinductioncookingsimplyplaceamagnetonthebottomofthepotorpanandseeifitsticks.Ifthemagnetdoesnotsticktoyourcookwareitwillnotwork.

Usecookwarethatwillfittheburnersizeandhasaflatbottom.Byusingcookwarewiththecorrectdiameter,youshouldachievemaximumheatingefficiencywiththeshortestpossibleboiling times.

Becertainthatboththecooktoppanelandthebottomofyourpotsandpansarecleananddrybeforeuse.Bydoingso,youwillhelppreventscratchesandstains.

BENEFITS OF INDUCTION COOKINGOncetheappropriatecookwareisplacedonthesurface,heatisimmediatelygenerated.TheSilKEN® inductioncooktopwillheatupto50%fasterthanelectricandgascooktops.

Bywayofbackground,inductioncookingisthemostenergyefficientmethodofcooking.It’sasmuchas50%moreefficientthangascookingappliances.Themagneticenergyisdirectlysuppliedtothecookwareso85%to90%oftheelectricalpowerappliedtothecooktopisusedtogenerate heat in the cooking vessel.

TheSilKEN®inductioncooktopprovidesspillretentionbutifaspilloroverflowdoesoccurthesurfaceofthecooktopremainsrelativelycoolandtheexcessliquidshouldnotstick.Waituntilthesurfacehascooledbeforeyouattempttoclean.

LOCK MODEIn lock mode the heat setting cannot be changed,buttheofffunctionforbothinduction elements and master power will stillfunctionforsafetyreasons.Alightnexttothe“key”graphicwillindicatethatthecooktopislocked.RefertofigureC.

Tolockthecooktop,placefingeronthecircular area next to the key graphic and holdfor1.5seconds.Anaudiblebeepwill be heard and the light next to the key graphic will illuminate. The cooktop is now locked.

To unlock the cooktop, touch the circular areanexttothekeygraphicandholdfor1.5seconds.Anaudiblebeepwillbeheardand the light next to the key graphic will go out. The cooktop is now unlocked and all functionsoperate.

NOTE: Ifthecooktopislockedandthemasterpoweristurnedoff,thecooktopwillstillbeinlockmodethenexttimethemasterpoweristurnedonandwillneedtobeunlockedbeforeanyotherfunctionsareoperable.Also,ifcookingwhilelockedandthemasterpoweristurnedoff,whenthemasterpoweristurnedbackon,thepreviouslyenergizedinductionelement(s)willdefaulttooff,andthecooktopremainslocked.Theseareimportantsafetyfeatures,whichallowtheusertolockthecooktopandturnthemasterpoweroff,providingasafeenvironmentinwhichthecooktop cannot be turned on or elements activated unintentionally.

INITIAL START-UPTheinductioncooktopisdesignedwitha2stepON,andonestepOFFforsafetyreasons,requiringatleast2differenttouchesofthecontrolstoactivateanelement,butonlyonetouchtodeactivate an element or the entire unit.

Cleanthecooktopbeforeyouuseitforthefirsttime.Athoroughcleaningwithourrecommended cooktop cleaner (Cerama Bryte Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner) will provide a coatingonthecooktoppriortoitsfirstuse.AsampleisincludedwithyourKenyoncooktop.Theinductioncooktopsurfaceshouldbefreeofanyforeignsubstancesbeforeuse.

CONTROLS OF INDUCTION COOKTOPToactivateaninductionelement,firstthemasterpowermustbeturnedonbyplacingandholdingafingeroverthecircularareanexttothemasterpowergraphic.Anaudiblebeepwillbeheardand a light next to the master power graphic will illuminate. Then the desired induction element mustbeturnedon,byplacingafingeroverthecircularareamarkedON/OFFforthatelement.The same beep will sound and a light will illuminate. Then the heat level is chosen, by holdingafingeroverthecircularareasmarkedwith+or-.Touchingthe+firstwillincrementallysettheheatlevelfromsettings1thru8withabeepandcorrespondingnumberoflightsilluminated.Touchingthe-firstwillincrementallysetthelevelfromsettings8thru1withabeepandcorrespondingnumberoflightsilluminated.Whenthedesiredheatlevelisreachedthefingerisremovedandthecooktopremainsatthatheatlevel.Ifaninductionelementisactivated,butnoheatlevelchosen,theelementwillautomaticallyturnoffin7seconds.

Tochangetheheatlevelplacefingeron+or-graphicofdesiredinductionelementtochangeheat level incrementally up or down.

Todeactivateanelement,touchcircularareamarkedON/OFFtoturntheelementoff.AlsothemasterpowerON/OFFcanbetouchedandtheentirecooktopwillbedeactivated.

NOTE: Ifnocookwareoranon-magneticpanisplacedonaninductionelementafteractivation,theheatlevellightswillblinkfor30secondsandtheelementwillturnoffautomatically.Thesamewillhappenifapanisremovedfromthecooktopwhilecooking.Ifthepanisreturnedwithinthe30seconds, the cooktop will resume operation at the previous heat level.

To activate Heat Boost, activate the element you wish to use and set heat level to setting 8 (highest).Touchthe+onemoretimeandtheelementwillgointoheatboostmode.Abeepwillbeheardandasmalllightwillilluminateneartheelementindicatorgraphic.Powerfromtheotherelementwillautomaticallybedivertedtotheelementinheatboostmode.Iftheotherelementisonheatlevel8(high)theheatsettingwillbereduced.Thiswillbeseeninthenumberoflightsilluminated in the heat level graphics.

HOT SURFACE INDICATORAhotsurfaceindicatorlightwillilluminatewhentheinductionsurfacetemperaturerisesabove1400F (600C).Alightwillbeseennearthe“HOT”graphicforthecorrespondingelement.The“HOT”lightwillremainilluminateduntilthesurfacetemperatureisbelow1330F (560C). The “HOT”lightwillcontinuetooperateevenwhentheunitispoweredoff.

SAFETY THERMAL CUTOUTAnothersafetyfeatureoftheinductioncooktopisthethermalcutout.Ifthetemperatureofeitherinduction element reaches 5180F (2700C), the thermal cutout will open and power to both inductionelementswillbeturnedoff.Thisisanimportantsafetyfeaturedesignedtoreducetheriskofrunawaytemperaturesandpossibleriskoffireifapotisboileddryorunintentionallyputon the cooktop empty.

MASTER OFFTopoweroffbothinductionelementssimultaneously,touchthecircularareanexttothemasterpowerON/OFFgraphic.RefertofigureC.Thiscanbedonewithoutdeactivationoftheinductionelementsifanyareinoperation,andisanimportantsafetyfeatureallowingtheusera“onetouchoff”incaseofemergencies.Allfunctionswillnolongeroperateuntilthemasterpoweristurnedon again.

CLEANINGTohelpensurethattheKENYONcooktopstaysclean,followtheseeasy-caretips:

Lockthecooktopbeforecleaningbytouchingandholdingthekeysymbolfor2seconds.

Alwaysremovefoodspills,greasespattersandmetalrub-offfromcookware.Arazorbladescraper or the equivalent works well to remove spillovers.

Cleanthecooktopwithapapertoweloraclean,softclothandarecommendedcleaner.Aftercleaning, always wipe the cooktop with a clean, damp cloth to avoid cooked-on cleaner residue. Wipe the cooktop dry.

Donotuseadishtowelorspongetowipeoffthecooktopasafilmmaybeleftbythedetergentandmaycausediscolorationofthecooktopsurface.

Avoidabrasivescouringcleanersofanykind.Alsoavoidusingplastic,nylonormetalcleaningpads. They may scratch or melt onto the cooktop.

Avoidchemicalcleanerssuchaschlorinebleach,ammonia,hydrofluoricacidorchemicalovencleaners.Theycanetchordiscolorthesurface.

Donotletanythingthatmelts-plastic,aluminumfoil,sugar,etc.comeintocontactwiththecooktopsurfacewhenitishot.Shouldsomethingmeltontothesurface,immediately move it to a coolareaofthecooktopwitharazorbladescraperandthenremoveitfromthecooktopassoonas possible.

KenyonInternational,Inc(the“Company”)warrantsitsproductsinnormalusagetobefreeofdefectsinmaterials and workmanship subject to the conditions and limitations below. Anypart,whichprovestobedefectiveinnormalusageduringthewarrantyperiodwillberepairedorreplacedby the Company.

ThiswarrantycoverscertainproductsbuiltbytheCompanyandissubjecttothefollowingconditionsandlimitations:

1. TheCompany’sliabilityshallbelimitedtorepairorreplacement(choiceofremedyatCompany’s option)ofgoodsorpartsasmaybedefectiveinmaterialsorworkmanship.Thisliabilityislimitedto threeyearsfromthedateoforiginalinstallationor42monthsfrominvoicedate,whichevercomesfirst; this warranty covers parts and labor at approved Company rates, $75 per hour.

2. Determinationofsuitabilityoftheproductfortheusecontemplatedbythebuyeristhesole responsibilityoftheBuyerandtheCompanyshallhavenoresponsibilityinconnectionwithsuch suitability.

3. TheCompanyshallnotbeliableforanydamageresultingfrom: •failuresduetouseoftheproductinapplicationsforwhichtheyarenotintended; •failuresduetocorrosion,wearandtear,abuseorimproperinstallationormaintenance.

4. TheCompanyshallberesponsibleforgroundshippingchargestothelocationoftheappliance(home) withintheContinentalUnitedStatesandCanada.Anyduties,expressorspecialshippingchargesare attheexpenseoftheBuyer.

5. AlllaborallowedbytheCompanyunderthiswarrantymustbeperformedbyanAuthorizedKenyon InternationalServiceCenter,unlessotherwisespecifiedinwritingbytheCompany.

6. Thiswarrantydoesnotcoverthecostofrepairorreplacementduetodamageofanyglasssurface, cooking grates or cooking griddles.

THEREARENOOTHERWARRANTIESOFMERCHANTABILITY,FITNESSFORPURPOSEORANYOTHERKIND,EXPRESSEDORIMPLIEDANDNONESHALLBEIMPLIEDBYLAW.Thedurationofanysuchwarrantiesthatareneverthelessimpliedbylawforthebenefitofaconsumer,shallbelimitedtoaperiodofthreeyearsfromoriginalpurchasebytheuser.Somecountriesdonotallowlimitationsonhowlonganimplied warranty lasts, so this limitation may not apply to you.
