The opening of silence of the lamb is effective through theuse of non-digetic music which is classical and upbeat tocreate an eary and tense feeling, making the audience feelautomatically alarmed that something will eventually happen

during the film. The film begins with opening credits, with black font, bold

and a white outlining, the sequence is in order of;

This is significant to the film as the text suggest that the girlrunning at a high speed in the background is represented asFearless and daring ,courageous during the opening of this film,showing a link between the film and the title sequence.

The sequence begins with a close up tracking shot a younglady running, you are unable to see her face as it is a sideview, this does create a mystery as the audience arewondering why this girl is significant within the film. The

setting is

based within the woods, it is dim

lighting, gloomy and misty as there

is barely any natural lighting, thiscould easily be linked to the film as it

suggests that something bad will happen.

This follows to a low angle of her climbing over the obstacles

empathising her determination suggesting that the maincharacter is powerful and independent as she continuesmoving at an extremely fast pace.

In addition to this there is diegetic sound ,which is

asynchronous to communicate her over coming her struggles

Next after this, is a long shot of her running into the distanceand still, a very fast pase, suddenly diegetic sound intervenesof a man calling for her as he runs after her , this evokes thateven the man struggles to keep up with her fast pace.

daily routine, it highlights motivation to push harderwhich shows signification factors as these signscould further link to film.

This follows of a long

not even the camera can keep up with her.

After this shot there is a mid shot of her high fivinga woman (which is diegetic sound) to symbolise theunity the women have due to it being a male

And finally the last scene is the lady going into an elevator filled

with men , which is really contrasting as she sticks out; all the

men are wearing red and she is wearing grey, in addition to this

she also looks petite towards the men surrounding her. This

could give a sense that she isn't strong enough compared to the

males in the police department.

She is shown to be quite individual and determined throughout

the opening The diegetic music is consistent through this extract
