1900= Thomas Alva Edison invented the Gramophone

1933= The Gold Diggers created a production with full choreography which was recorded onto film

1938= Alexander Nervsky, Segei Eisenstein (soviet Russia Propagandist film maker put music over his film, which was unique at the time.

1939= Fred Astaire was a huge world wide star, and brought musical stars to film

1940= Fantasia was arguably the first music video. Walt attempted to get people interested in classical music.

1952= Gene Kelly’s singing in the rain was the start of musical films.

1961= Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. Television had become well established by this point, and then West Side Story was released, introducing musicals into film.

1960’s= this was Elvis’ time to shine and he took the decade by storm with a new kind of music; rock and roll.

Musician’s also performed weekly on the television show called ‘ready, steady, go.’ with live studio audiences although the artists mostly mimed.

1970’s= David Bowie, is globally famous, he was very controversial as he was one of the first singers to release singles as his alter ego ‘Ziggy Stardust’.

1975= A classic rock song from world renown classic rock band Queen; Bohemian Rhapsody.

1981= MTV hit television, it was anew way for people to watch the latest music videos, and even now in 2015 it is still running and now produces reality TV shows and documentories.

1983- Michael Jackson changed music videos forever with the iconic, 13.43 minute long Thriller music video. It was so popular that people stayed up until midnight to watch it when it was released. It is like a horror movie within a music video, making it so different to anything that had been previously produced. To this day it is still one of MJ’s most popular songs and videos.

Since the invention of more music channels and YouTube the significance of music videos has plummeted as they have become more readily available to watch whenever, where ever.
