Gauging Student Needs Assessment

Purpose of the Assessment To gather information and assess students prior knowledge

about The Revolutionary War. What I want to learn from my students?

I want to find out what they already know about the Unit Questions and what they know about The Revolutionary War.

How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? I question students to identify how certain contributions have

affected our world today. How the assessment information helps me and my students

plan for upcoming activities in the unit? If students do not understand how specific contributions/events

have impacted our world today I can provide additional instruction clarifying misconceptions. If students have different levels of understanding about the importance of contributions, I can give additional instructional activities such as articles and books. We will revisit this assessment throughout the unit for students to add their knowledge.
