Disability training

- Signa Academy believes that unemployed PLWD represent the most marginalised population group in South Africa.

- Many Signa Academy learners are PLWD and Signa trains these candidates with care and respect for their special needs.

- Support structures that are incorporated into our training delivery include: • Initial profiling and skills testing to ensure that the learner is equipped to successfully complete the learnership in which they are enrolled;

• Sponsoring employers that are introduced upfront to the learner and are a match in terms of the learner capability and the potential future employment environment;

• Sensitisation between the learners and their host employers;

• A direct relationship with a mentor from day one of the learnership, that interacts with the learner on workplace requirements and personal development;

• The mentor also gives attention to the special needs of the learner, depending on their disability;

• A dedicated full-time social worker at Signa Academy to attend to the learners’ challenges with their day to day living environment;

• Joint drafting of a career development path;

• Sourcing sponsoring employers that will support progressive learning over a period of time for the learner to enhance the opportunity of long-term employment.

Signa Academy follows a philosophy of training interventions that will lead to job creation and employment. We aim to offer customised solutions to enable industry development and welcome interaction to support client objectives.
