Did you know…

The Sullivan Community

Council and the Town of

Sullivan require a 50-state

background check, completed

annually, on all instructors and

volunteers?

We’re doing our part

to keep all

participants safe!

A Note from the Assessor’s Office

The STAR exemption gives a discount on school taxes. The property must be your primary residence.

If you are a new home owner or have just build a home the STAR exemptions are processed through

New York State. New STAR applicants will receive a credit in the form of a check directly from New

York State. You will need to contact the State at 518-457-2036 or visit their website at

www.tax.ny.gov. You can also google, STAR registration New York State. After you have completed

the application process be sure to save the confirmation number that is provided to you.

The above registration only applies to new homes or new home sales.

Homeowners who currently have the Basic STAR an will be turning 65 years old in 2018 may be

eligible for the Enhanced STAR. The enhanced STAR program gives the homeowner additional

discount on their school tax.

If you are changing from the basic STAR to enhanced STAR you will need to provide your 2016 income

tax and proof of your age to the assessor’s office by March 1st, 2018.

Summer Fire Safety By Bill Pindle

Cooking grills too close to buildings-Keep a minimum of 10ft away from

buildings and do not use grills inside a building whatsoever, do not store

LP gas tanks inside, best to store them outside.

Window unit air conditioners-these units overload the smaller and older

circuits in your home. Be sure that your electrical wiring is capable of

handling the power needed to run these units.

Swimming pools-keep your pools in safe condition. This includes the

electrical and the limited access to your pool area. Any questions that you

might have, feel free to give me a call at 315-633-9333.
