WHALE WATCHING

Whale watching is amongst Iceland‘s most popular tourist attractions and the northern part of Iceland is considered to be the mecca of whale watching. We will arrange a tour for you with

one of our partners from a location of your choice, the shortest only thirty minutes away and Husavik only two hours drive away.

SEA ANGLING

There is no better way to embrace the culture of a small fishing village than sea angling with a local captain.

The wooden boat Steini Vigg is operated by Siglo Hotel and sits in its inner marina where guests can leave for an exciting adventure. Directly from Siglo Hotel´s front door, Steini Vigg will bring you on an 2-2,5 hour tour within Siglufjordur where you can fish cod and various other species.

A favourite of our guests is the upgrade option to have the catch of the day prepared for you at Siglo Hotel´s restaurant or to freeze the fish for you to take with you on the road and enjoy at a later time. While we prepare your food you can enjoy the walk by the marina to embrace the culture of this small fishing town in full.

HIKING

The Troll Peninsula is an ideal place for hikers to visit and in the area around Siglufjordur you will find several excellent day hikes. There are maps at Siglo Hotel and hiking guiders available upon request.

Although the terrain is harsh, hiking in the area is for everyone from

advanced hikers to those who want more of a relaxed in-town-hiking. You can undergo shorter routes such as circle around the town (about 5-7 hours) where you hike in beautiful landscape of our fjord or longer trails (10-14 hours where you hike mountains, hike past lakes and check out abandoned farm houses.

HORSEBACK RIDING

Ride in the beautiful landscape of the Troll Peninsula with spectacular views of the ocean and mountains. Variety of riding

tours are offered for beginners as well as experience riders, for individuals as well as for groups.

GEOTHERMAL POOLS

All over Iceland there are geothermal pools but the new pool in Hofsos is considered to be among the most exotic ones with a breath taking view of Skagafjordur. There are numerous other

pools in the area, both indoors and outdoors, many of which are ideal for families.

KAYAKING

The fjords and lakes around Siglufjordur are simply perfect for kayaking. A kayak rent is placed in Olafsfjordur, which is 17 km

away from Siglufjordur and in 2016 kayak renting will also be available in Siglufjordur.

SIGLURFJORDUR SKI AREA

Considered to be amongst the best skiing areas in Iceland, Si-glufjordur ski area rises over 650 meters above sea level. Diverse slopes provide a great overall area for beginners as well as for advanced skiers with the untouched nature within grasp. Being rebuilt, the full potential of ski area should be ready for the ski season of 2017 linking a new ski lodge with exclusive services for

guests of Siglo Hotel. At the skiing area you can rent the necessary equipment and the area offers slopes for both beginners and experienced skiers alike.

Within one hour drive you will find four other skiing areas with various slopes and possibilities.

MOUNTAIN- AND HELI-SKIING

At Siglufjordur, mountain-skiing is an exquisite experience. Being the mecca for mountain- and heli-skiing in Iceland Troll Peninsula offers advanced skiers a memory of a lifetime. You can take mountain- or heli-skiing tours with experienced mountain guides, a world class downhill skiing tour where you will reach the top of the mountains and ski through mind-blowing terrain with

vertical descents of up to 1500m or almost 5000ft.

As the mountain rise straight out of the sea this allows for a skiing experience of a lifetime. Skiing all the way down to the ocean and even during night time in the midnight sun.

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

As Siglufjordur is the northernmost town in Iceland you are more than likely to have a beautiful northern light experience while visiting. We recommend taking a tour with one of our partners specializing in finding picturistic spots for elusive sky show with vivid and bright swirling lights of the Auroras boralis.

Siglo Hotel offers northern lights wake up calls and you can enjoy them from the hot tub or your window seat.

SNOW CAT TOURS

Arctic Freeride operates from Olafsfjordur and specializes in snow cat trips. They’ll drive you to the top of the mountain Mulakolla, 984 meters or 3228 ft above sea level, where you can enjoy the amazing view of Olafsfjordur, Troll Peninsula, Eyjafjordur, Hrisey, Grimsey,

The Atlantic Ocean and nearby nature. You can even bring your ski or snowboard equipment and ski down the mountain on the way back.

MUSEUMS

In addition to the Herring Era Museum, Siglufjordur and surround-ing towns have plenty of other museums to offer. The Icelandic Center for Poetry, Folk Music Centre and Saga-Fotografica camera museum are all located in Siglufjordur.

Within one hour drive there are numerous other museums,

including Olafsfjordur’s Nature Museum, focusing on birds, Dalvik’s Hvoll heritage museum, Husabakki Birdland Exhibition, Museum of transportation, Holar Cathedral and The Icelandic Emigration Centre.

THE HERRING ERA MUSEUM

The Herring Era Museum in Siglufjordur is Iceland‘s largest maritime museum and the only one that has won the European Museum Awards. It is situated in an old salting station which had been abandoned after the herring stock collapsed. In 1994 it was rebuilt to its former glory and the museum officially opened. A visit to the museum will give you great insight into Siglufjordur

and the Icelandic maritime history.

Today the museum operates in three buildings, with the fourth being added. Tickets to the museum will also grant access to the Folk Music Centre and the old slipway, also operated by the museum.

GOLF

During the summer months you can play golf all night long in the midnight sun. Peace, quiet and unique nature will give you a golfing experience you’ll never forget. In both Siglufjordur and

Olafsfjordur there are 9-hole courses. While playing golf in Olafsfjordur’s golf course you can enjoy a magnificent view over the fjord.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Arts and Crafts is a popular occupation in the Troll Peninsula and there are many workshops, galleries and artists operating in the area. In Siglufjordur there are five galleries and workshops operating all year around. One of the more popular ones being Gallery Grána, located within the Herring Era Museum.

Taking you on the road will bring you to numerous other galleries and artists within an hour drive making Siglo Hotel, an ideal location when embrac-ing the various arts and crafts of Iceland‘s north coast.

BREWERY

Microbrewery Segull 67 is located in Siglufjordur, producing Icelandic beer. As from December 2015 the brewery will have facilities to welcome guests and offer tours. Another brewery,

which offers tours as well, is located in Arskogsandur, only about forty minutes away by car.

RIVER RAFTING

You don’t need any previous rafting experience to discover for yourself why the East Glacial River has become Iceland’s signature whitewater rafting trip. BIRD WATCHING

North Iceland has a rich bird life. Three Birding Trails have been mapped out for North Iceland, each one having its own character. North East Iceland including the famous Lake Myvatn provides

you with more species than anywhere else found in Iceland.
