At Siemens, we have always considered Environmental Protection essential. We believe that high-performance appliances and lower energy consumption can be achieved at the same time. Hence, the majority of our appliances have gained the highest EU energy grading.  

In the 1990s we pioneered the global move to hydrocarbon technology which our refrigerators are completely free from Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC/ HFC's), this means that it does not contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer or intensify global warming. We are also leading the way in the development of environmentally-compatible products. All the synthetic materials and plastics used in our cooling appliances can be recycled.

Over 90 percent of environmental pollution occurs during an appliance's usage phase. This is why our greatest contribution has been to develop resource saving products, it is an example of environmental protection in practice being the direct consequence of intelligent technology.  Within 17 years, we have succeeded in dramatically reducing the amount of resources consumed by its appliances. The potential for energy and water conservation has been superbly exhausted, as the figures in the current report document: Electricity consumption of refrigerators and freezers could be reduced by 79 percent since 1990, Oven 31 percent, Washing machines from BSH consume today 37and 67 percent less electricity and water, Dishwashers 40 and 57 percent depending on use and appliance.

To help you find domestic appliances that are particularly energy efficient, there is now the EU-Energy label that is used through out Europe. This independent label categories appliances into seven energy consumption classes from A to G and provides additional information on water consumption, washing and drying properties and capacity. A always indicates the most economical, energy-saving appliances, whereas G indicates those with the highest electricity consumption.  For refrigerator and freezer appliances, there is the additional classification A+ and A++. It is particularly comparing here – with an A++ appliances, the electricity consumption can be up to 46% less than with an A+ model. It goes without saying that Siemens appliances take the top place when it comes to energy classification.

Energy saving tips: Cooking and baking. Save 31 % *

Cooking on a low flame.  Energy is a valuable resource that is becoming

increasingly scarce and, as a result, more expensive. Luckily, it’s not just the features of hobs and ovens that have noticeably improved over the years, but their energy efficiency, too. So you have more than twice the benefit when you replace your inefficient and outdated appliances. With new Kitchen appliances

alone,you can save 31% of the energy you previously used, and even more if you make use of the following energy-saving tips.

With the following tips you can save even more:

» Always use pots and pans with bases the same size as the hotplate. Induction hobs are particularly efficient as the heat is generated in the pan base and not on the hob.

» Hobs with cooking sensors prevent boiling over. This alone can save up to two or three times the energy usually required.

» Do not use damaged pots and pans. Dented or uneven bases cause a considerable loss of energy.

» Always cook with the lid on your pans to prevent unnecessary heat and energy from being lost.

» Look out for automatic frying programmes when buying a new oven. This ensures perfect results and optimises the use of energy.

Energy saving tips : Washing and drying. Save 37 %*

Better to have an energy-saving washing machine-than an electricity bill that

washes away your savings. An average washing machine washes around 5oo kg** of washing a year. With volumes like these, it's particularly important to use a modern and energy-efficient washing machine. In comparison, new machines are significantly better than the old machines: They use 37 % less energy and even 67 % *** less water. And dryers are no longer the power consumers they used to be. With following tips you can save even more:

Washing

» Wash with the special programmes designed for specific fabrics or soiling levels. These are optimised for the most economical use of energy and the best washing results.

» Use modern automatic load sensor. Whether 1 or 8 kg of washing, your machine sets the optimum combination of resources for a perfect wash.

» The programme labelled "Eco Wash" the ideal programme for your hot washing needs – for a perfect wash and particularly low energy consumption. Generally, the following rules apply: the less soiled your washing, the lower the temperature you need.

Drying

» Always set the highest speed for spin drying. You can save a lot of time and energy in the drying phase.

» Don't forget to clean the lint filter regularly – a full filter lengthens the drying time.

Dishwashing. Save 40 % *

Pure manual work is expensive – especially when washing up. Contrary to general opinion, dishwashers are actually much more efficient than washing up by

hand. They use a lot less water and detergents. By way of comparison: washing up by hand requires 28 litres of water, whereas a dishwasher uses only 12 litres** for the same load of dishes. But, once again, this all depends on how old your dishwasher is. The latest generation of dishwashers saves around 40 % of the energy required by older models.

» You can save 50 % more energy with the Eco dishwashing programme. » Set your dishwasher to work nights – with the start delay option. Take

advantage of the cheaper night time tariffs.( Not Applicable in India)

» Only start your dishwasher when it's fully loaded. Or use the half load function if you only have a few plates and dishes to wash – this reduces water and electricity consumption by up to another 30 %

» Don't wash your plates before putting them in your dishwasher. Just remove the larger pieces of food.

Refrigerating. Save 79 % *

Good refrigerators should keep food fresh – and the electricity reader in

check.

Refrigerators and freezers are always in use. In fact, they account for 20 % ** of a household's electricity consumption. That's why in this area in particular, it's worth considering buying a new model – as up to 79 % of energy can be saved with a new model compared to an old.

With the following tips you can save even more:

» Never put warm foods into a fridge. Wait until they have cooled to room temperature, cover them and then put them in your fridge – that way you won't be unnecessarily wasting energy.

» Energy is lost every time you open your refrigerator door. So don't open your fridge more often than you really need to, and don't leave the door open for any length of time.

» Regularly check the rubber seals around the door of your fridge. If they are damaged of porous, they should be replaced to prevent the cold air from escaping.

» If possible, place your refrigerator or freezer in a cool position, protected from direct sunlight. Also avoid placing it too close to radiators, ovens or dishwashers.
